In my opinion, it's a little silly. I thought the woman who used it as a middle name did it properly--with class. Since she will be giving the name to the child as a middle name, it's an homage but not a piling of her favorites onto her child, which would seem wrong, but hey. Do what you want to do.
I love, love that name for a boy. I think I am personally going with it as a middle name (the John Lennon connotation is quite strong...not that that's a bad thing...but it sure is obvious). It's hard to come up with a good middle name, using it as a first name.
I work in a school and we've got a little boy (he's 4) named Lennon. When i first heard the name I thought it was strange, but now it's really grown on me and I even think it's nice.
