Oct. 27th, 2005 11:16 amJust thought I'd throw this out there
What do you all think of the name "Evar" I'm not sure where it came from (I'm from Alabama) but I knew a lady named this and then the lady's granddaughter had it as a middle name. I think it's kinda cute...The older lady pronounced hers as "E-var" long e sound. The granddaughter pronounces hers as "ever"
Has anyone else ever heard this name? Anyone know the meaning/origin?

..."Ohhh, Doo Dah?"
..."Yeah, Doo Dar"
I always get a kick out of telling that story. I noticed when we were in Rhode Island a lot of people had that same accent as well.

Date: 2005-10-27 09:42 am (UTC)My book notes, "Emer was the beloved of Cuchulainn. According to an early tale, she alone of the women of Ireland was wooed by Cuchulainn, 'for she had the six gifts; the gift of beauty, the gift of voice, the gift of sweet speech, the gift of needlework, the gift of wisdom, and the gift of chastity'."
Well, I know I personally have always considered needlework one of the essentials! ;)
