[identity profile] xever.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My husband and I have come up with a handful of names for our twins that we are expecting in March. We would love to know what people think of them.

Girl names
Madison Isobella
Mackenzie Rose

We think that combo would be really cute if they're both girls

Jordan Emily

Boy names
Charlie Trevor - Trevor as a middle name after his father
William Patrick
Miles Liam

My favs are Jordan and Miles, would love to hear what you all think.

I love your boy names, a lot. The only thing I'd change about them is to use Charles instead of Charlie. Charlie is really informal, and the way I always explain this is to say, think about when your child is an adult and is applying for a job. He writes "Charlie LAST NAME" on his resume, and the guy looking through them looks at it, thinks "He doesn't know he should put his formal name on the resume?" and it gets thrown in the reject pile because of a misunderstanding. I love Charlie, and most people would call him Charlie if his name was Charles. Plus, I think Charles Trevor flows a lot better than Charlie Trevor. William Patrick and Miles Liam are both adorable:)

I like Emily, Rose, and Isabella (but not Isobella). Madison, Mackenzie, and Jordan are all really popular and very trendy right now, so I'd recommend staying away from those ones. They're not BAD, but they're just...very very very popular and your child will definitely be dated forever back to around 2007 for their entire lives. I know that Emily is also really popular, since it's #1 for the Social Security data, but (1) the "alternative" spellings of Madison and Mazkenzie give them both a false sense of uniqueness; if both names had all of their alternative spellings added together, they would both be much more common; (2) Emily has a lot more staying power than the others. It's been popular since the 1800s, and even before that, and while it only recently skyrocketed, it's been on the rise for a while, and it will probably stick around for a while, too; (3) Emily is a much prettier name than Madison or Mackenzie.

Other ideas for first names - I typed your favorites into Nymbler and this is what came out as girl name suggestions that I think are really cute:
Ainsley
Aubrey
Delaney
Macy
Haley
Harper
Piper
Madeleine (a classic, like Emily, that has more staying power than Madison)

Like I said, I love the boy names, and Miles Liam is a great combination. William Patrick is the other boy name I'd use for a twin, because they're not matchy, but they compliment each other well. The only problem with that is that Liam and William are so close to each other. What about Miles Trevor or Miles Jordan? (Jordan is much better on guys, I think)

For the girls, I'd stay away from matchy names. I know that it's easy to think that twins should have matching first names, but Madison and Mackenzie are WAY too much. They're individuals, and they should have individual names, you know? If you want their names to match, I'd go with something more subtle, like... for boys, maybe you could do Miles for one and John for the other after famous musicians (Miles Davis & John Lennon) or something like that. Something that isn't totally obvious.

Plus, can you imagine how many girl sets of twins have been born in the past couple of years who are named Madison and Mackenzie? Waaaaay too many. It kind of gives me a headache.
