I will be the first one to admit that I love certain "boy" names on girls and "girl" names on boys. I even like some of the "unisex" names. However....names that people tack an -a or -ett or whatever on to to make it a "girl" name usually irritate me. I worked with a woman named Juanette. There was no reason behind it, her parents thought they made it up.

Today I came across a young lady named Andrewnette Lynay ln. Now her mom's name is Sophia and her dad is Jerry....even her stepdad is a David....no one is named Andrew.

Now, that being said....her sister is named Kashabora.

Andrewnette? Do people actually call her that? To her parents - what's wrong with Andrea (which in Italy (so I've been told) IS a guy's name, if they like that kind of thing.)?

it is a guy's name, the feminine form is Andreina, which is basically never used.

Oh boy. Andrewnette & Kashabora. What in the world were those parents thinking?
I can't decide which I dislike most.

I like tough names on girls too though, and some unisex names as well. But this...no.

I have a boys name but my mom changed the spelling to make it look more feminine. My name is Randelle but it's pronounced Rand-all (like the boys name). I like it! The name has really grown on me, and I think I would have hated it if my mom kept it Randall.

I really dislike the feminization of most male names. There are some, like Andrea, Alexandra, Harriet, Josephine, etc. that are common and acceptable names regardless of their masculine counterparts. But others, like Juanette (wtf?) and Andrewnette (DUDE! CALL HER ANDREA!!!!!) that are just ridiculous.

Besides, I hate most names that end in ette. Just et is fine (ex: I love Harriet and Juliet but Harriette and Juliette are horrendous).

Also, ette vs. et sometimes changes the emphasis. Other times, it's there because people are lame.

Totally OT, but... I love your icon. Do you mind if I add you? I'm a photographer/artist/writer lesbian in NYC. I give money to HRC and talk loudly on my cell phone on public transportation about being gay. Do I pass?

Ugh...Juanette makes me twitch. Juana is a legit name (feminine form of Juan) but the ending -ette isn't even Spanish! It's French! So ridiculous.

Or Juanita. Or Jeanette. They're all the same name, but Juanette is awful.
