Date: 2007-10-12 12:52 am (UTC)See, I don't get how Sally can be short for Sarah? The two names are nothing alike, except they both start with S. Plus...Sally is two syllables, as is Sarah. So, how is saying Sally any shorter.
The same goes for Jack being a nn for John. Which...I had never heard before.
It just doesn't make sense to me.

A nickname to me is just a shorter name that you go by if your own name is kind of long. Not a 'less formal name' that isn't even your original name/
