Tacky?

An internet acquaintance of mine met her now SO through the internet. They're expecting their first child together for this winter and it's a girl. They're in Denmark and she's part english. They haven't settled for a first name, but they're toying with the idea of using Java as a middle name, as a tribute to technology, which they credit for bringing the 2 of them together.

I think Java sounds nice, and it looks close to Jada, but it makes me think of the tea. Exotic enough, that's for sure. But naming your kid after computer applications? I'm not sure what I think of it.

WDYT? Do you find their choice to be tacky?

P.S. I think they're considering Anabel and Sofie for first names.

It could be worse: Anabel Match.com LASTNAME or Sofie YahooPersonals LASTNAME.

I personally wouldn't ever use Java as a middle name, and I would most likely think of coffee first, and not the computer application, but to each her own.

LOL, one of my friends is a coffeemaniac, too. I'm actually surprised she didn't use Java as a middle name for one of her sons;)

it's different although i immediately think of coffee, not technology. although i love technology...always and forever....always and forever.

I don't think it's that bad, lots of people give their kids certain names for similar reasons, this just happens to be related to technology. Like people above, I think of coffee first which somehow makes it better to me.

I think it's tacky, and my husband and I got together under similar circumstances. I think there are better milestones or sentiments to name your children after. You don't see anyone going around with the middle name 'sleezy-bar', or the like. The internet should be no different :P

Java...that makes me think of the island. That's not bad. As others have said, it good have been much worse...and there's a nice story behind it =)
(Also, I like Sofie. I like it much better than Sophie).

*could, not good. Sorry about that *annoyed*

Yes, tacky. Just imagine the kid having to explain what her middle name means for the rest of her life; I have a feeling it's not a naming choice she'd exactly be proud of.

Haha, I have a cat named Java because he's the same colour as coffee with lots of cream.

I don't mind the name Java but I think there could be better choices. The brands of the computers the used for example or just... I don't know. I suppose Java is the best thing to use...

Sony wouldn't be to bad.

If it were a boy it'd be easier though, lol.

If it's a boy -- Mac! haha

That'd actually be awesome, lol.

And it could be used as a nickname too for SO many things.

What about the coffee?
I dunno, I really thinks it's a horse name, I know five show horses with Java as part of their name, I really can't see it on a human... can't they pay tribute to technology by buying some?

(I really love the name Sofie though)

[identity profile] ladydiddymus.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
mehh I think Java is dumb as a human name. it reminds me of coffee and of Jaba the Hut from star wars. besides, isn't Java an application for games?? I doubt online gaming had much to do with their meeting.

Reminds me of Jabba the Hut. Yikes!
