Days, months and everyday words as names?
Aug. 8th, 2007 12:33 pmLast week I came across a woman named Yesterday. I have also recently met a girl (27 yrs old) named Tuesday. I knew a girl named September when I was in elementary school. I knew a girl named Memory in high school. Do these names seem odd to you? Names like April, May and June have been used for decades, but September still seems kinda weird to me. Of course we all know Wednesday Adams, but would any of you really name your child a day of the week? I kind of like Memory as a name. The Memory I knew in high school was fairly pretty and well liked and I don't recall her being teased about her name. WDYT about Memory? Any other similar names that you think are pretty or pretty odd?

Date: 2007-08-08 07:08 pm (UTC)Monday= Moon's Day
Tuesday= Tyr's Day
Wednesday= Wodan's Day (Odin)
Thursday= Thor's Day
Friday= Frigga's Day
Saturday= Saturn's Day
I like February, April, May, June, July, and August as names, especially August. And I've always thought Monday would be a cool name for a girl.

Date: 2007-08-08 06:19 pm (UTC)I went to high school with two girls named December, although one went by DeeDee.
Yesterday is a little out there. In junior high, one of my friend's mom's was named Memorie... always seemed a bit strange to me.

Date: 2007-08-08 06:33 pm (UTC)Most month names are just normal to me because they're used often. I think December is a cute name for a girl.
I hate some word names, even the 'normal' ones like Destiny or Charity. Memory is kinda cute, I think.

My mums name is June, and she hates it!
I quite like some 'word' names.

Date: 2007-08-09 03:37 pm (UTC)Me, my brothers and niece and nephew all have everyday words in our middle names like: Night, Wo(o)lf(ie), Pixel, Royal, Parisian, Tiny, Butterfly, Eight
I'm always to ashamed to tell people I know.
I don't think I would ever name my children after days or months but I find Winter really nice.

Date: 2007-08-09 06:59 pm (UTC)Naming your kid after a word doesn't do it for me either, at least, not in most cases. I know a boy named 'Boy' - which I absolutely hate, I even feel sorry for the kid. It's like his parents named him 'Boy' because they were afraid other people would take him for a girl if he'd had an other name :P
On the other hand, I do like names such as Rain (but spelt 'Rayne'), Crystal, River and India, but only as a middle name. And I would probably not use them on my children, but only on characters in my stories.
