Hi! My name is Susan Anthony. My husband and I already have one set of twins, Ramona Claire and William Henry. We're expecting our third child. We don't know the gender yet, but we've decided on a boy's name: Jack Maverick. Anyway, my husband and I both love Portia and Layla. Layla Renee is the combination we agreed on. But for Portia, we're totally clueless. What would be a good middle name for Portia? And do you prefer Layla or Portia?

Thanks!

Not a fan of Portia at all, I love Layla!

i am not a big fan of Portia. I love the name Layla, but i like Layla Roxanne. Layla sounds very rockstar, so i think you should have a rockstar sounding middle name.

I love Layla, way more than Portia. I can't even think of anything that sounds good with Portia, honestly. The only Layla I knew was Layla Destiny, but that's kind of eh. I like Layla Renee. :-)

I Love Layla, although I like it spelled Leila. :) I do not like Portia so much.

I'm sorry, I'm horrible at thinking of middle names, so I am not too much help in that department ;) lol
But I do love Layla (it's on my list of baby names too! But I have it spelled as Leila).
Congrats!!!

I like Portia, but if I hear a person by that name mentioned, I tend to wonder if she was named after the car (with similar spelling) or after the character in The Merchant of Venice, and make judgements accordingly. (I know this is snobbish, but people do tend to make judgements on names.) I think a Portia might get fed up with the question "like the car or like the Shakespearen character?"

Behindthename also suggests it originates from the Roman family name Porcius, meaning "pig". Not so nice, if true.

On balance, then, I prefer Layla.

and I love the boy name you have chosen! I am still pouting because my husband won't let me name our next one Maverick!

I don't know which name I like better. I agree, however, lots of people would associate the name Portia with the car, but Portia is a beautiful name!

As for middle names, what about:
Portia Maria or Portia Elise?
