Agreed that they look made up-but i actually saw Cowen and Cowyn listed in a baby name book as an "alternate" spelling, which i swhy i listed them here!
It's really odd for me to see Cohen spelled any other way, I have to say. I guess it's what you do with trendy names, but, you know, like half the people at my temple are named something-or-other Cohen, so. I do like it (Cohen, but only if it's spelled that way) as a first name. It's strong.
I agree...I actually only knew one person named Cohen and his was spelled Coen...it just looked funny to me. But I'm pregnant and due in Sept..I think we're going with Cohen Foster E* as the full name. My husband's middle name is Foster...
I must disapprove of use of Cohen as a first name in any form. While, in a way, it's nice to see surnames that don't come from the United Kingdom being used as first names, it doesn't make Cohen any better.
I would spell it Cohen. I have a friend whose last name is Cowan and his family pronounces it Cow-ann. I would under no circumstances give a child a name with the word 'cow' in it.
