I know 2 Alexanders who use their full name. One is a flamboyant gay guy who thinks that Alex sounds too butch (his words, not mine) and the other is a tranguy I know hwo chose the name because he loves the full version, and not so politely corrects people who use the nick name.
I myself go by Joshua and despise when people call me Josh... the only nickname I accept is JJ... but regardless, it is hard to find someone who goes by the full name.. any full name anymore. Most anything and everything can be shortened.. hell even John can (Jack).
I have a cousin who goes strictly by Alexandra.. She's about 14 now.. and I can't recall ever having heard her called something else. and I also knew one Catherine who went by just that. I'm Rebecca and no one calls me by a nn.. If someone wanted to be called Alexander all the time, I'm sure they could make it happen. LOL
I know one guy, but he's totally weird. I'm guilty of the nn thing myself, the only person I let get away with calling me Jennifer is my Mom, I'm Jenn or Jenna to everyone else.
Yes, I know an Alexander who always goes by Alexander. He's in his late 30's.
My husband insists that his name is Michael and not Mike. He hates it when people simply shorten it after he introduces himself as Michael and he corrects them. Everyone calls him Michael now, except his own parents!!!! LOL
From the time he was old enough to talk, he would insist that people call him by his full first and middle name. He's 14 now and goes by Alexander instead of "Alexander James." Some people call him Alex or Al, but the majority of people call him Alexander.
Because the comments have gone towards talking about nicknames, I figured I'd mention this link here. There's some pretty interesting name information here.
