Tabitha

How does everyone feel about the name Tabitha? I was watching "Bewitched" (I admit it. Best show ever!) and I was reminded how much I like it. There's something so graceful about it, I think, but I suspect it's a kind of "either you love it or you hate it" name. My friend said that she, I'm quoting directly here, hates it with a fiery passion.

I could never, ever in my life use it for a first name, since it's nearly impossible to pronounce in Hebrew and all my relatives would freak out. But I think it sounds nice as a middle name. I tried to match it up with a few of my favourite names and it turned out pretty: Anna Tabitha, Ruby Tabitha, Lillian Tabitha. Can you think of combinations using similar names and Tabitha as a middle name?

Haha. I speak Hebrew, and trust me, it doesn't sound pretty. The "th" sound doesn't exist in Hebrew, so it'd just be "Tabita", with sharp sounds--"tuh-bee-tuh" of sorts. All the grace just runs away from the name and it becomes clumsy and it doesn't flow. It's not even as bad with something like Annabeth because the pronounciation would be the same just with a T instead of the "th" sound, but with Tabitha the whole emphasis changes.

Despite it being my name, rather Tabetha is I am 50/50 on it.

On the one hand it's fairly uncommon, has many sepelling options without getting too out there (Tabatha, Tabetha, and Tabitha). It grows well with a child. Has a pretty meaning too.

On the other hand its constansty associated with Bewitched, I kid you not when someone forgets my name 8 times out of 10 they call me Samantha I assume because their like "Crap her name is like that character on Bewitched it must be Samantha!" It becomes annoying LOL.

Also the name is often shorten to Tabby which I hate!

I actually like it. I didn't use to because of the Bewitched association and the nn Tabby, but the combo Ruby Tabitha really stood out to me. I think it's beautiful. And in the middle you wouldn't need to worry about Tabby. Ruby Tabitha is gorgeous.

An ex friend of mine was named Tabitha, so I have bad associations. That aside, I have never thought of it as graceful because nobody ever called her by her full name. Even complete strangers called her Tabby or Tabs.

Like angeleyes, i had a cat named Tabitha. I like the name though, well as a middle name. the nickname tabby is too cat-like.
