SSA Name Game
Feb. 27th, 2007 03:47 pmI noticed that some people tend to be a little more adventurous with the girls' names they like and then less adventurous or more traditional with boys' names when they're picking baby names out.
List your top 10-15 names for both boys and girls and list find how they all ranked in the Social Security Administration's baby name ranking database. Then compare how your boys' and girls' names ranked.
Here are mine, based on the popularity of names in 2005:
Girls:
Annabelle - #238
Arden - Not in top 1,000
Celestia - Not in top 1,000
Charlotte - #135
Fae - Not in top 1,000
Helena - #548
Gemma - Not in top 1,000
Idony - Not in top 1,000
Isolde - Not in top 1,000
Lisette - #959 (but in 2001)
Lucia - #366
Rosalind - Not in top 1,000
Rose - #333
Scarlett - #421
Tessa - #271
Boys:
Caspian - Not in top 1,000
Dorian - #426
Edward - #134
Gavin - #47
Jack - #34
James - #17
John - #18
Jude - #306
Lennon - Not in top 1,000
Leo - #258
Ronan - #606
Rowan - #441
Sebastian - #86
Wesley - #187
William - #11
I only have two names that are not in the top 1,000 for my boys' but more than half of my girls' names haven't been in the top 1,000 in the last 15 years. Strange how that happens. I wonder why that is? Anyone have theories?
And if anyone else wants to do this, go on ahead. =)

But another thing to think of is that names like James, William, Robert, etc. have so many nick names that the ranking of the full name might be less relevant.
