When I first read the name I thought it was Shay-en. It's not the most obviously phonetic spelled thing, and (to those who posted further down) it's not being disrespectful to a place/people/etc if you can't tell how something is pronounced the first time you see it written!
Oh well. When I wikied the population it was late and must have added an extra 5 at the front. No matter the hour I can still differentiate between Ch-ey-ennie, Ar-kan-sauce, Ill-eh-noise, or Dez Moin-ez.
I know Americans pronounce Cheyenne like "shy-anne" (at least from what I've read on this community). I'm from Australia and I can't see how the "enne" becomes "anne".... because for example, Aaron and Erin sound COMPLETELY different in my accent - the A and the E are totally different sounds whereas they're much more similar to Americans....
So in an Australian accent (does anyone know)... would it still be Shy-anne or would it be like shy-enne?
(I've never heard of this name before my interest in naming communities, and I have never heard of an australian with this name.. so forgive my ignorance)
I'm American and Aaron and Erin sound completely different to me as well. However, Cheyenne I've always heard as shy-anne so I think it might be the same for you?
