[identity profile] army-wife51b.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Hello, I just found out that our second child will be another boy and need some help picking his name.  I have a few general ideas, I'll place them behind a cut so I don't take up your friend's page.  :-)

I am very picky about names, based on 2 things:  Meaning and Syllables.  I feel those are very important when making the right name.

For instance, my first son's name is Madison(please don't flame me) we named him that because we found out the original meaning is "son of a great soldier" or "son of a warrior".   My husband is in the army, and he really liked that name for obvious reasons.  We picked this out without knowing that it was a popular girl's name...oh well.  We really like it, based on it's original meaning, not it's current popularity for girls(no offense to anyone who has or has decided to named their daughter this).

Anywho...Madison's full name is Madison Henry Lentz.  If you break down the syllables, it goes 3-2-1, so it has a nice flow to it.  Henry was my husband's great grandfather's name, so that is why we picked it.  We will probably pick another family name for the middle name, so I don't need help there.

I am thinking of going with a 2 syllable name for this baby, and have it end with an "n".  As opposed to having my children have names matching with an obvious first letter, I thought a subtle matching last letter would be nicer.

Example:
Nathan Daniel Lentz (2-2-1)  or Madison and Nathan--but not that name, that is just an example.

Any ideas?  The only other name I could think of that ends with an "n" and has 2 syllables is Jordan, but I don't really like that.  Please, if you know the meanings behind names, that would help.  I don't really like generic names...but you could just give me ideas and I can look up the meanings later.

Thank you for your help.  :-)

I won't flame you because to me Madison is a boys name! It just sucks that your son will be growing up with soo many female Madison's as peers. I knew a male Madison growing up, his younger brother was Sheridan... I actually loved them as a sib-set.

I can think of tons of 2-syl boys names that end in "n":
Weston
Tyson
Tristan
Trenton
Simon
Rylan
Ryan
Preston
Owen
Nolan
Evan
Dylan
Damon
Brendan
Ashton
Austin

.... there's a few. If you want more I really reccomend this site:

you can find just the names you're looking for quite easily :)!

I love Madison as a boys name! In fact it was a boys name first and it also happens to be on my list for baby #4 (due in Sept.) as well! =)

Oh, and I *adore* the name Tristan. If I didn't have a cousin and niece named that I'd so use it. ;)

I only picked the ones that seemed to have more meaningful meanings. BTW, I searched for *n for male names which gave me all the names ending in N then I looked at the 2 syllable ones. If you want to see the rest of the list, you can search for that too. There are tons that relate to towns and stuff if you decide the meaning isn't as important.

Aaron- most likely of unknown Egyptian origin. Other theories claim a Hebrew derivation, and suggest meanings such as "high mountain" or "exalted"

Aiden/Aidan (probably too popular)- earlier forms of the name meant "fire"

Austin- from Augustus which means Means "great" or "venerable"

Baldwin- Derived from the Germanic elements bald "bold, brave" and wine "friend"

Carson- Gaelic surname of unknown meaning

Collin- derived from Nicholas which means "victory of the people"

Corbin- raven (usually used for dark-headed children)

Darwin- dear friend

Declan- unknown

Dragen- "precious"

Edwin- rich/blessed friend

Ethan- solid, enduring

Fallon- leader

Godwin/Goodwin- friend of God (don't know if you are religious or not)

Griffin- possibly lord,prince

Jabin- perceptive

Johan- German form of John- "God is gracious"

Keven- composed of the Old Irish elements coem "kind, gentle, handsome" and gein "birth"

Lucian/Lucien- related to Lucius- "light"

Martin- related to the god Mars- "male"

Mattan/Matthan- "gift"

Melvin- "counsel friend"

Nolan- "descendent of Nuallan". The name Nuallan means "champion" or "chariot fighter"

Oden/Odin- "inspiration, rage, frenzy"

Paxton- unknown

Reuben/Ruben- "behold, a son"

Stephen/Steven/Stefan/Steffen- crown

Tobin- related to Tobias- "God is good"

Torin- chief

I am a fan of Simon. That is, of course, because I have a Simon. ;)

We're pregnant with #2 as well and having THE hardest time coming up with a boy name (we don't know if it's a boy or a girl).
