I'm really curious as to what you guys think of the names

Esmé
Sorcha (SOHR-ra)

I personally like the latter better, but the former is pretty nice.

My mum says Sorcha is terrible, especially if you ever try to apologise to her.

Sorcha can also be pronounced Sor-ka, though, and that would be the favoured pronunciation in some parts of Ireland. I quite like that pronunciation, but find Sor-ha a bit limp.

I think it's just regional variations - some parts will be more familiar with one pronunciation than another. I'd hazard a guess that places with a higher proportion of Irish speakers or more of a Gaelic influence would favour Sor-ha, as it looks like the more Irish pronunciation (like Meadbh/Niamh being Meve/Neve). That's just speculation, though.

I recommend looking on the Irish names section of behindthename. Irish spellings are obviously so different from what we're used to. Some are so beautiful, though: Eimear (Ee-mur), Eilís (Ie-leesh) and Caoimhe (Keeva). Not spellings for anyone with no recent Irish heritage, though!
