I am having trouble thinking of names where Pri (rhymes with tree) would be an acceptable nickname for a girl. I'm not entirely fond of Priscilla but I might go with that (someday) for a middle name and call her Pri anyway. Are there any other names you can think of? Thanks.

I don't like it... I think because it has bad connitation for me. The girl who worked here before me in my jobs name was Priya and she was a scatterbrain and stressed when more than 1 line on the phone rang at once, and swore and stuff... lol!

I think of Priya and Divya on My Super Sweet Sixteen on MTV...and wow, were they spoiled!

Eh, people get weird nicknames out of names all the time. If OP likes "Pri", it's better to give her daughter a name she'll actually like rather than picking a name that makes more sense with the nickname, like Priscilla.

That's true. But also I don't understand choosing nicknames for children...or choosing names based on nicknames. Nicknames usually have to be something the name-bearer likes. My mum called me Wren when I was very young. I never liked that. Now I don't even have the same first name anymore. My sister was called Rosa, but now only goes by Rose. Usually other people generate nicknames or the person prefers another one. I think the parent's role is to choose the formal name and use whatever nickname they want while the kid is young, but not think that's going to be the forever-name necessarily. *shrug*

I know a girl named Priya (rhymes with Chia, as in Chia Pet) whom we jokingly call Pri-Pri sometimes. The name is Indian (India Indian, not Native American Indian), if it makes any difference.

I have to second (third?) Priya as a lovely name. The Priya I know is nicknamed Pri sometimes.

we've got a 4 year old at my work named Mannpreea, she's nicknames Preea (pronounced the same way that Priya is). I actually prefer the Preea spelling, it's easier to pronounce..for me at least.

I don't think Pri or any of the other names are appropriate for someone non-indian. Also: why would you call someone a nickname of their middle name (not that Pri is a nickname for Priscilla) rather than make the first name whatever Pri- name? Seems rather confusing.

"Pri" just makes me think of the prefix "pre," like "premature," "prenatal," etc. It doesn't seem like a nn somehow.
