Im watching a movie on the Lifetime Network. The main character, a woman in her mid/late-thirties has the name Michael. She also recently lost a daughter named Emma. I think its a bit of an over kill for two really popular and recent naming schemes.

WDTY?

Ugh, Michael on a girl is terrible, and I've always hated the name Emma. I wonder if it was based on real people, like a lot of those Lifetime movies are...

Micheal sucks for a female.

I like Emma...but that's just me.

I actually really like Ryan for a girl. That's about where I stop being okay with the whole "boy names for girls" thing, though. I think it's a rediculous trend. Leave names to their appropriate gender!

Michaela is the true spelling of the recently popular name Mikayla, McKayla, and all its variants....

Though boy names on girls certainly does seem to be widespread these days, it's hardly a new phenomenon. A girl named Michael doesn't surprise me. I think there's a model with the name too (stage name? I'm not sure...).

Emma hit the top 100 in 1993 and the top 200 in 1987. So that's not unbelievable either.

I was watching some "funniest moments in game show history" kind of show, and one of the contestants on an episode of Family Feud was a lady named Michael. Unfortunately for her, she looked a bit manly as well.

I don't hate the giving girls boy's names trend as much as some people, but I think Michael is terrible for a girl.

It's like on South of Nowhere, there is a teenaged boy named Aidan and a girl named Madison. I sincerely doubt that 17 years ago, Madison and Aidan were popular names. Then of course there's another girl named freaking SPENCER. It's definitely overkill, as is the movie you were watching. I've never heard of Michael being used on a girl. Blech.

Yes. Her father's name is Michael, and she was expected to be a boy. When she was born a girl, they named her Michael anyway! She was actually adopted out and her foster family changed her name, but when she turned 18 she changed it back to Michael because she liked it.
