What are your thoughts on the name Mirabel?
It's from Latin and means "wonderful".

Last night my fiance (notoriously picky on girl's names) and I were watching Hell's Kitchen and one of the contestants was named Mirabel.
"I like that name." said fiance "I REALLY like that name"
"Of course you like it," I replied "Your favourite name is Mirah and if we named a daughter Mirabel, you could call her Mira for short!"

I told him I had to mull it over for awhile before I could decide if I liked it or not. I like Mirabel better than Mirah with an H and the nickname Mira without an H is ok.

Several people in this community have pointed out to me in the past that Mira is similar to the Spanish word for "look" but that's not SUCH a big deal to me because we live in Ontario and you don't take Spanish in school here. I don't even know anyone who can speak Spanish.

I looked Mirabel up and it hasn't been in the top 1000 in the last 15 years, so that's a big plus. My, as of yet unconcieved, daughter will not be one of 5 Mirabel's in her class.

So what are your thoughts on Mirabel, and what middle names would go with it (Hebrew names would be a plus).
The only combo I thought of so far is Mirabel Elizabeth.

I like it a lot -- Mira is adorable for a nickname, and the full name is feminine but not fussy.

As for Hebrew middle names ... Mirabel Aviva? Mirabel Rebekah? Mirabel Kerena? Mirabel Shoshanna?

Why don't you just spell it Mira without the h?

I'm on the fence about Mirabel. It's not a name I would have said "yeah I really like it" about without the explanation and the potential nickname Mira(h) (which I really like as a full name or nn). Maybe bc of where I grew up it's more of a Hispanic-oriented name (as in I've mostly only known people with that heritage who had the name) so to me it sounds at odds with the whole Hebrew aspect, which I know is really important to you guys.

and I don't care for it with Elizabeth as it's a mouthful & Mirabel ends in the 'el' sound & ELizabeth starts with it.

I went to high school with a Miralina who went by Mira. The name fit her very well and I really liked it.

I prefer just Mira to Mirabel, but it's ok.

I like that it's uncommon but not bizarre in a way that will make nobody remember it. It's simple and sweet but rare.

I think it's a little too "floofy". No substance to it at all. Mira/Mirah is really nice, though.

You said Hebrew names were a plus, and the nice thing about Mirabel is that you can put just about any "-a" name next to it and not sound repetitive (ie, I know a lot of people named Rivka Sara, Hannah Leah, etc., and I don't love it. On the other hand, you can use a lot of non "-a" names (Tamar, Rachel, etc.) and have it sound just as lovely.

So, here's a few ideas.

Mirabel Sara
Mirabel Rivka
Mirabel Chaya <-- (were you the one who said they liked Chaya for a first name?)
Mirabel Tamar
Mirabel Rina
Mirabel Devora
Mirabel Batya
Mirabel Naomi

Also...if you're going to have a separate Hebrew name, IMO the obvious choice would be Miriam, which goes wonderfully with most of these middle names, I think. The nickname "Miri" or "Mira" could be used for either of these names. :-) Good luck.

I also like Miranda, which could have Mira for short...
I agree with the previous poster who says that it goes nicely with many Hebrew middle names.. Miriam is also nice
