boy names

I can't sleep at night because boy names keep dancing through my head. We made a list of ones we actually *agree* on (granted - we don't know that this baby is a boy and won't know until he/she makes themselves known). So, brutal honesty. That's what I need. Tell me what you think of these boy names, please. Not sure that it matters, but my first born is Simon.

- Otto
- Oliver
- Declan
- Ian
- Milo
- Adrian

The only one I really don't like is Otto. For some reason it's cojuring up imagines of a grumpy old man. I LOVE Samuel & Oliver, though. Declan is one I'd never thought about and haven't heard much, but I like the sound of it a lot. :oD

- Samuel - of the bible names, it's one of my favorites. I find it a little too popular. I think it's top 10, right?
- Otto - Spunky but maybe a little too silly sounding. I'm not sure every boy could pull this off, but if they could it would be great.
- Oliver - The epitome of bobo (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bobo&r=f) naming in my mind.
- Declan - It's growing on me.
- Ian - nice
- Milo - Similar to Oliver for me.
- Adrian - One of those names I find too feminine on boys and too masculine on girls (as Adrienne). I just don't care for it.

While none of them are my style, I think they're all good names, except for Otto. Besides the fact that I just don't like it, it will always be the stoner bus driver on The Simpsons to me. I think that the best ones on your list are Samuel, Declan, Ian and Adrian, and I think all four of those sound good with Simon.

Of those Oliver is my favorite. I'm due at the end of March and I brought that name up, but sadly the husband didn't love it as much as I do.

Declan and Samuel are good, too.

Adrian and Ian I don't care for so much. I don't know why.

I like Miles but Milo puts me off, probably because of the movie The Adventures of Milo and Otis, which I hated.

The name Otto makes me think of the school bus driver from The Simpsons saying, "My name is Otto, and I love to get blotto."

But those are just my personal prejudices...

I think the name Simon is very cute, btw.

Yeah, I don't like Milo for Milo & Otis either. Loved the movie, but the names are just not cute on people to me.

Not more than I wanted to know :) I wanted to hear what other people thought... sometimes you get caught up in a name and romanticize it a bit and it is a really stupid name. :D I don't want my kid stuck with a horrible name! It would be much easier if this baby ends up being a girl. ;) Thanks for your opinions!

I also like Declan and Ian depending on your last name. A friend of mine whose last name is Jarrell (JAIR-el) said he had thought of naming his future son Declan, and I loved it because I think Declan Jarrell sounds awesome.

I like Declan, Ian, Adrian and Oliver in that order. Declan would have been this baby's name had she been (or if for some reason the u/s is incorrect, and she's NOT a girl) a boy. Like it so much I may save it for a future child, should I decide I may want one and it's a boy.

-Samuel - Good, strong name. Can't go wrong with a classic.
- Otto - Not so much. It's an icky name to me
- Oliver - Okayish.. I'm not a huge fan but it's not horrible
- Declan - NMS at all..
- Ian - Good name, but not special.
- Milo - eeh..
- Adrian - Another good name.

Out of them all, I like Samuel best, but paired with Simon, I'd personally go with Oliver or Adrian.

Samuel - This is one of my all time favorites!
Otto - sounds like something you'd name a dog.. not a kid. Cute as a nn maybe? Not sure what for.. so I'm no help there.
Oliver - It's cute, just not my style
Declan - don't really care for this
Ian - I like it.. just not in love with it.. but a decent name that you couldn't go wrong with.
Milo - I'll have to agree with an earlier poster.. I like Miles better.
Adrian - Just don't like this name on a boy.

Samuel is great but reminds me too much of Simon... i would find it confusing.

Otto is the only "bad" name on your list which seems to be what a lot of other people have commented too. It firstly conjures up a really stereotyped image to me - a round little German boy who wears overalls and clogs and his parents run a chocolate factory and he stuffs himself with chocolate all day. Next comes Otto the bus driver from the simpsons. Then next, I can imagine it on a pet.

Oliver is a decent name but my personal taste is that I don't like any names with the sound "liv" in them.

Declan is good, I like Ian and Adrian a lot too.... Milo is not a name to me, it's a drink, but unless you live in Australia then that probably isn't an issue for you.

Personally, I think Otto is a fabulous name. I also love Oliver, though it is growing in popularity quite a bit. I don't care for your other choices, but I do love your son Simon's name. :)

Samuel has been very popular for so long and continues to be. He'd be a Sam A in a class of Sam B, Sam C, Sam D etc.

Oliver is also lovely but he'd most likely end up being called Oli - which doesn't do the name justice! Also, it's getting very popular.

Declan is nice, but does just make me think of Ant and Dec (but I guess no one outside of the UK knows who they are anyway?)

Otto seems kind of incomplete, but apart from that I can't really decide if I like it or not.

Ian is ok. It's a decent strong name. But it does seem a little dull to me.

Milo is really lovely, but perhaps would stand stronger as a nickname for Miles.

Adrian is a really great name. I'd go for Adrian or Milo/Miles.
