[identity profile] lavandersparkle.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
When I got into school late today there were two other girls who were also late one of there names caught my eye, and I immidiatly thought "OMG I have to post to the baby names group!" This girl's name is...

Noah

WDYT?

I hate the boys-names-used-as-girls-names trend, with the exception of Adrienne. But this one is the latest I 've heard and I hate it.

i've seen it spelled noa on a girl, which i DESPISE even more than noah on a girl. i'll admit, though, both make me a little queasy. i have a boy noah and i just think it's such a masculine name.

but noa is actually a hebrew girl's name. :)
i think the spelling 'noah' is reserved for boys.
it's a cool name, and i actually prefer it on girls, hehe.

oh i KNOW it's a feminine name, which is why i pointed out that spelling -- it still just makes me shudder because of the association with my son and the fact that, well, he's a boy. just like the name shannon. it's used on girls and guys but one of my good guy friends is a shannon so i always cringe at the thought of girl shannons, which is the opposite of what most people do! lol.

i had an employee named shannon (female) and i felt so bad. half the time i'd talk about her, i'd end up saying "he." lmao, SO embarrassing. fwiw, my name is aubrey and a lot of older people (like 60+) are like "ISN'T THAT A GUYS NAME?!"

I always liked Shannon better as a boy's name and I've never met a boy with that name...only girls!

i've noticed that it seems most common among like 25-30 year olds as a male name but even then, it's so rare! i've also got a family member (some sort of cousin, maybe?) who is a male shannon but i think he's a bit older.

Adrienne isn't a boy-name-used-as-a-girl name trend, exactly. It's its own name. It's a girls' name. And it's not new (not in the same way that it's fairly new to use Morgan or Jordan or Riley for girls' names, that is).

Adrian = boy

Adrienne = girl

Just like Noel + Noelle. It's a feminine version of a masculine name, but it's definitely a feminine name.

I LOVE Noah as a girl. Ive always thought it was on the feminine side, as most names ending with "a" are. I had a friend who names his girl dog Noah, and it was befitting of her (very feminine), and since then I've loved it as a feminine name.

Noa is one of my favorite girl names.

It gets a lot of crap which is beyond me, since it's a legitimate OLD female name, even appearing in the bible somewhere. I don't mind the name Noah on a boy, but have always found it too old-bearded-man-and-an-ark. Noa for a girl has a nice sound and though it sounds the same, feels like an entirely different name to me.

I love it for a boy, and I guess it's okay for a girl. I've never considered it before!

The only thing that I dislike about it personally is the strong association as a male name. It's really really male to me. It barely leans unisex to me at all. And the Biblical character is dear to me, and well, he's a boy, lol.

I generally like a's and ah's at the ends of girls' names, but I'm on the fence for this one.

Hate it!
