Our baby girl, due in April, is destined to have a *mouthful* of a name. (This is our first baby.)
His family named all the children with "A" names
My family named all the chidren with "D" names
His surname is a 4-syllable Greek name starting with A.
My surname is a 2-syllable German name starting with H. (I didn't change my name when we got married.)
Adriana Lucia (my surname) (his surname)
(Adriana pronounced like "Audrey-ana," not "Adrian-a" ) Maybe Adri (like Audrey) for short.
For daily use: Adriana (his surname)
BONUS: It starts with an A & a D. It's pretty in writing and said out loud. The only Adriana I ever knew was smart, attractive, and kind, so I have good associations but not a lot of associations.
His Spanish-speaking relatives say Adriana the way I expect. I'm afraid that at school or with my midwestern relatives, there may be some confusion - but I love the name, and I'm prepared to be a bit stubborn about how the name is pronounced.
