[identity profile] i-am-dsh.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

Our baby girl, due in April, is destined to have a *mouthful* of a name. (This is our first baby.)

His family named all the children with "A" names
My family named all the chidren with "D" names

His surname is a 4-syllable Greek name starting with A.
My surname is a 2-syllable German name starting with H.  (I didn't change my name when we got married.)

Adriana Lucia (my surname) (his surname)

(Adriana pronounced like "Audrey-ana," not "Adrian-a" )  Maybe Adri (like Audrey) for short.
For daily use:  Adriana (his surname)

BONUS:  It starts with an A & a D.  It's pretty in writing and said out loud.  The only Adriana I ever knew was smart, attractive, and kind, so I have good associations but not a lot of associations.

His Spanish-speaking relatives say Adriana the way I expect.  I'm afraid that at school or with my midwestern relatives, there may be some confusion - but I love the name, and I'm prepared to be a bit stubborn about how the name is pronounced.

It is a general statement, I'm aware not every person will think a child snooty for coreecting on their name.
Growing up having to correct people on my name, I know I've gotten snide remarks because of it.

I have to correct people with my name all the time, I've actually had some really rude comments like "Why didn't your parents give you an American name?" or "You should think about getting a nickname that's easier for non-hispanic people to say."
