[identity profile] mayna.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Hey all, I'm 9.5 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child (due July 22 2007).  Our other two children are Maylie (almost 4 yrs) and Greg (26 mos old).

I know it's still early but I'm in a quandry because I found the "perfect" girl name and used it on Maylie and can't come up with a girl name I like for this one.  Obviously my hubby and I need to agree on a name, but I want to have a name (or several) in mind to discuss.

Basically I like names that are unusual but not weird sounding.  I get compliments on Maylie's name all the time that it's pretty and they haven't heard it before. (although there's only the random mispronounciations like my father-in-law was calling her "may-LEE" for the longest time when it's "MAY-lee".  I spelled it that way because people could remember how to spell it, and I think -ie is less pretentious than -ee or -eigh or other variations.

And our son's name is more of a family name... not one I would've chosen but my husband got to name Greg since I got to name Maylie.  But we BOTH get to name this one (or at least agree on one).  My husband likes "Samantha" but his brother's name is Sam and I don't want 2 Sam's in the family.  He also likes Virginia (nickname Ginny) because that's his late grandmother's name but it doesn't sound that great with our last name (Narotski), although it's better than Samantha (which is also WAY too popular for my tastes).  I do have a few boys names I like so just need suggestions for girl names...

So does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Criteria:
1. Can't be too popular.
2. Can't start with M (we have too many M names in our family)
3. Can't rhyme or sound similar to Bill, Greg, Dianna, or Maylie (so no Jill, Brianna, Bayley, Maggie, etc)
4. Can't end with an N (mushes together with the last name).
5. I prefer names of one or two syllables or easily nicknamable.
6. I'd like people (including me!)  to think "oh that's pretty" when they hear it (and not "oh that's weird")

that's a shame Aurelie is beautiful. Aurelia is french too, i guess it's all derived from the same name. It's the French woman's name in Love Actually.. like Amelia (a favourite of mine but too popular in england) What about Aurielle? That seems easier to pronounce as it's sort of like Ariel the mermaid but more Or-ee-el. i ♥ France!
Cecelia is adorable, i like Ceci :-) Ayla is pronounced eye-luh so I don't think it's too like Maylie..is you spell it Isla.

I don't like Chantel. It's been turned into a bit of a cheap name over here.. strippers have the name Chantelle.

Cecelia is a great name too. It was on my list for a Kira name, but Daniel just sang "oh Cecelia, you're breaking my heart!" every time I mentioned it. :P I have a cousin named Cecily, which is similar but not reminiscent of the simon and garfunkel song.

I had the perfect name picked out for my son, Benjamin David, then I realized that BS might get him made fun of in middle school so we settled for Erik Benjamin. With our baby on the way we racked our brains before deciding on Tristan for the boy name.

I love Samantha. My cousin is Samantha and her nickname is Mantha.

Pronounced "Vay-duh"

Thats not too popular and is a little "unusual"
Doesn't start with an M.

Wasn't the girl in "My Girl" named Veda/Vada? *racks memories of early '90s childhood*

Thats actually where I got the idea. I just spelt Veda with an e rather than an a.

Aww I love the name Vada. I want to use it so bad, but I wouldn't want the connotation. Not that it's a bad one, I just don't want to ever look at my kid and think "My Girl"... yeah, lol. Beautiful name, though :)

We're naming our daughter that. Possibly as a first name, but definitely at least her middle name. Does she get the "Darth Veda" comments?

My name is Coriel, pronounced cor-EE-el... like Corie with El added on to it. I get called Cori and Ellie or El but I prefer Riel.
