My teacher and his wife had their first daughter today/yesterday. They named her Charlie Victoria.

I think it's pretty. I'm pretty sure the 'Charlie' is after Chaplin, as he is a die-hard Chaplin fan, and a Drama teacher. I think Charlie isn't too bad on a girl.

You?

I like male NICKNAMES on little girl.

Charolette ... Charlie
Stephanie .... Stevie
Georgia .... George
Francesca ... Frankie

But I'm not a fan of given names as male names.

Ashley was actually originally a male name lol... Hmm I've come accross quite a few male kellys and I associate that as a female's name.

Ashley is a commonish male name in England. I mean it used to be a lot more popular for males than females
My housemate at uni is called Ashleigh and he's a boy. That annoys me... leigh is mainly the female spelling right..

ditto. would it have been SO bad for them to give her a 'girl' name to fall back on? not to mention a full name vs a name that to me is just a nickname.

I agree! I think Charlie might be cute as a nn (I picture a cute little tomboy) but as an actual given name? Nope.

Besides, it just clashes so horribly with Victoria, which is a serious, old-fashioned name...if they were going that route, they should've made her Charlotte Victoria, and just gone for Charlie as the nn.

Charlotte Victoria is beautiful.

Charlie Victoria? Not so much.

Should have saved it for a son and made him Charles Victor, lol.

I think it's kind of bad for a girl. He could have waited until he had a boy to name a kid Charlie. But as long as they like it...

I woould like it better if it was Charlotte, Carlotta, Charlene or even Charla. And for that matter, how weird would Chaplin as a girl's first name be in a classroom full of Addisons and Skylers? Or use Sydney, which was Charlie Chaplin's brother's name.

(I really dislike nicknames as full names and boy's names on girls, so this name is two bad trends in one for me. And yeah, Sydney's a boy's name, but I bet it's more common for girls now.)

Charlotte Victoria would have been a gorgeous name.

I like it. I grew up with a girl named Charli Beth and I love Charlie on a girl. I also hate nicknames. My theory is if you are going to call the kid something name it that and not a longer version that will be shortened.

My roommate's sister's best friend goes by Charlie and Chuck. I'm not sure what her given name is. I do think Charlie works surprisingly well on a girl but I would want a fuller feminine name.

YUCK, I hate Charlie on a girl, even as a nickname. As a full name, it's even worse.

Absolutely awful. If they wanted to use Charlie they should've at least had the decency to name her Charlotte or Charlene or something. Blech.

I like Charlie on a boy a lot. Charles is the middle name used for boys on my daddy's side. I would consider using Charlie as a first name though...
I don't like it so much on a girl just because i hate Charlotte and most Charlie's are Charlotte's.

My sister's best friend is named Charlotte but she has always been called Charlie.

My grandmother's name is Charles. It's not good on a girl. She uses her middle name.
