Dec. 18th, 2006 04:37 pmNever gonna have a kid, but love my characters like they were my kids (probably more). Wondering what your thoughts are on Catherine. I'm adamant on spelling it with a C, but it seems as though spelling it with a K would lend itself to more nicknames. (In more traditional ways of spelling anyway.)
[Poll #891433]
While we're at it: which spelling do you prefer? Catherine? Katherine? Katharine? Kathryn?
Don't know if any of you watch NewsRadio, but there's a Catherine in there who was pissed off at the newspaper spelling her name wrong. In the words of the venerable Catherine Duke:
Catherine with a C is regal. Katherine with a K is a two-bit hooker in Jersey.
The rebuttal: Tell that to Katharine Hepburn.

Date: 2006-12-19 12:49 am (UTC)I had a dear friend growing up and it was spelled Kathryn. We called her Cat. Sometimes Katie Kat.
My grandmother was nicked Kathy, with a K, evne though it was spelled with a C. Never asked why.

Date: 2006-12-19 12:54 am (UTC)I'd say Katherine, with no nicknames.
I despise the nickname of Kat/Cat and Kathy/Cathy.

Date: 2006-12-19 09:24 am (UTC)I don't like Kathryn at all. While I know you don't really say Kath-er-ine/Cath-er-ine, I still find the two syllable Kath-ryn a bit heavy.

Date: 2006-12-19 07:52 pm (UTC)So, Either Catharine, or Cathryn. And I would go with the nickname Cat. That looks like it would fit best in a story.

Date: 2006-12-19 09:56 pm (UTC)For C or K, I like C/Kat, C/Kate, and C/Katie the most. For K, I also like Kit. Sometimes I like Cathy (when it makes me think of Flowers in the Attic), sometimes I don't (when it makes me think of the comic strip).
As for spelling, I prefer Katherine or Katharine, but I think it's beautiful any way you spell it.
