Quick Question
Dec. 17th, 2006 03:58 pmWhen you see the name Kaitlyn you think of Caitlin NOT Katelynn right?
What about when you hear it?
My daughter's father and I were arguing a little because he swears its too close to Katelynn which is the whole Katie, Kathrine, Kathleen form and I'm saying its not.
I meant for it to be a form of Caitlin and in no way associated to Katelynn, Katie etc.
Reason its such a "big deal" to us is because he hates or I should say is biased against any form of Katie names.
He thinks Katie can be a nickname for Kaitlyn and hes pretty much not cool with that..
Prove him wrong... please?

Date: 2006-12-18 12:16 am (UTC)If anything I think Kathleen is the furthest from there, mostly because I only know one Kathleen and it's my elderly aunt.

Date: 2006-12-18 12:57 am (UTC)Its too late to not go the Kaitlyn route.. she was born in April!
We probably should have talked about this BEFORE the naming process..
Oops :/

Date: 2006-12-18 11:21 am (UTC)I had no idea Kaitlyn was a form of Katherine which I probably should have looked into.
I don't think anyone if they hear her name will assume her full name is Katherine though.. hopefully not.. so I think I'm good.
Thanks for letting me know though.

Date: 2006-12-18 02:30 am (UTC)I don't see how it's a big deal if you just call her Kaitlyn and not Katie.

Date: 2006-12-18 02:31 am (UTC)Kaitlyn is really just a different way of spelling *Caitlin

Date: 2006-12-18 03:51 am (UTC)I'm just curious how you see a difference in these names, seeing as they are said exactly the same way?

Date: 2006-12-18 11:26 am (UTC)I later settled for Kaitlyn because it sounded the same and was said the same but thought it was some different form of the name Caitlin which I thought had NOTHING to do with Katherine.
Apparently I was wrong.. :/

Date: 2006-12-18 04:33 am (UTC)If you really want to call her by a nickname, go for thing like Lyn, Kat, Kit, or call her by her middle name.
Kaitlyn is quite a nice name without a nickname though. :)

Date: 2006-12-18 11:29 am (UTC)Her middle name is Arley which doesn't sound so good as a first name.
I liked it because it flowed well and was "different" Kaitlyn Arley Keef.

Date: 2006-12-18 10:15 am (UTC)Sorry, but based on the history of the name as well as the sound, it is definitely related to Katie, and Katie is a plausible nickname.
BUT - you don't have to call her Katie!!! Most of the Caitlins I've ever met didn't go by Katie, in fact, I only know one who did, and she was only called it sometimes. Otherwise it's usually just Caitlin. Likewise I know plenty of Katherines and Kates who don't go by Katie.

Date: 2006-12-18 01:14 pm (UTC)I only know one adult Caitlin and one child Caitlin, and they're both just Caitlin. No Katie or Cait or anything like that. So there is hope :) While she's still young I'd put my foot down and insist that she's Kaitlyn and not Katie, but it might be harder to enforce that once she starts school.

Date: 2006-12-18 06:58 pm (UTC)I'm not too fond of any Kaitlyn nicknames seeing as there aren't many :/
Thanks for the response ♥

Date: 2006-12-18 08:14 pm (UTC)I mean they are pronounced the same, granted you don't see many Kait's and plenty of Kate's but... that's about it.
I love Caitlin, hate Katie.
I don't see the appeal of spelling Caitlin Kaitlyn though, she will most likely get called Katie who are prone to name shortenings, sorry!
Caitlin is so much prettier to look at and write.

Date: 2006-12-18 10:18 pm (UTC)I know a bunch of Kaitlyn's (no matter which spelling) that are called Katie/Caity/Kaitie/Caitie.
I don't get why Katie wouldn't be a nickname for Kaitlyn :/

Date: 2006-12-18 10:31 pm (UTC)I have a seven year old niece named Caitlin and we call her Cay-Cay. But I'm sure she'll go by Cait or Caitie at some point in her life. My sister in law is Mary Caitlin and her family calls her Mary Kate.
