When you see the name Kaitlyn you think of Caitlin NOT Katelynn right?

What about when you hear it?

My daughter's father and I were arguing a little because he swears its too close to Katelynn which is the whole Katie, Kathrine, Kathleen form and I'm saying its not.
I meant for it to be a form of Caitlin and in no way associated to Katelynn, Katie etc.

Reason its such a "big deal" to us is because he hates or I should say is biased against any form of Katie names.
He thinks Katie can be a nickname for Kaitlyn and hes pretty much not cool with that..
Prove him wrong... please?

I think Caitlyn/Kaitlyn is too close to the Katherine/Katy/Katie thing.

If anything I think Kathleen is the furthest from there, mostly because I only know one Kathleen and it's my elderly aunt.

Oh, and the two Katies I know are Kaitlyns. I also know a Kate, and she's the only Katherine of the bunch.

I think of Caitlin and Katelynn is a different spelling of Caitlin and not a form of Katherine (at least according to www.behindthename.com).

Why not just spell it Caitlin? (I'm partial to that spelling for personal reasons.)

My cousin's name is Katelyn and she goes by Katey, so...

*Katherine, not Kathine*

Kaitlyn is a variant of Caitlin, but in America Katie does seem to be a common nickname for Caitlin, however it's spelled. (In Ireland, it's pronounced like Caught-leen, and I don't know what the nicknames are.) So yeah, if he violently hates Kate-related names, Kaitlyn might not be the way to go.

Sorry I can't take your side!

I've always considered both Kaitlyn and Katelynn to be variants of Caitlin.

I think Kaitlyn, Caitlin and Katelynn are three different ways of spelling the same name. Sorry.

I mean, it's all Catherine. I don't understand how they're not related.

But CaitlĂn is Catherine, which is Katherine, which bears the nickname Katie. It's all the same name.

Same name spelled 3 different ways. And Katie, in my opinion, is a nickname for Kaitlyn/Katelyn/Caitlin just as much as for Katherine/Kathryn. Besides, Caitlin is the Irish form of Catherine, and Kaitlyn is really just a different way of spelling Catherine, so they're pretty much all the same name. Sorry.

I don't see how it's a big deal if you just call her Kaitlyn and not Katie.

My friend Caitlyn is Catie, so if you go with it, you're probably gonna get it.

Sorry, I just think that they're all different spellings of the same name... although my preference is in "Caitlin", especially if you want to avoid the "Katie" nickname. My friend Caitlin always went by her full name, or by "Caiters"... so I guess that my help your point a LITTLE bit... :S

I'm just curious how you see a difference in these names, seeing as they are said exactly the same way?

Just don't call her Katie. ^_^

If you really want to call her by a nickname, go for thing like Lyn, Kat, Kit, or call her by her middle name.

Kaitlyn is quite a nice name without a nickname though. :)
