What do you guys think of the name Flora?

My mum hates it. She cringes whenever I say it. My sister doesn't really care, and my best friend can't see it on a real person.

You?

I like Dean too. It's my nephew's name.

I think the name Flora is rather pretty.

I think it's pretty. I suggested it as a possibility for our new baby, but it got the paternal veto.

I just imagined someone yelling the name around a playground to find their kid, and imagined attendance on the first day of school, and it doesn't seem outrageous. :)

It's a nice name!

It's not really my taste, but I think it would fit in with a lot of the more old-fashioned names people are using now. (Anna, Lily, Ella, etc.)

Flora is very pretty. :)

For similar names, I rather like Fiona.

Flora's actually my middle name. It was passed down, as it was my grandmother's middle name. And if I can find another name it could possibly flow with nicely, I may pass it down myself.

Flora, Fauna & Merriweather (sp?) are the 3 fairies. that's actually the first thing I thought of when I heard it.

I'm not crazy over it but it's ok.

and I actually knew a Flora & a Floribeth -called Flory(I know not exactly the same but just to point out that IRL it doesn't seem so Disney-ish). both were of Hispanic descent.

I worked with a Flora, she was nice and I think the name is pretty, but everybody called her "Flor" which is like.. Floor, as in the carpet. So for that reason alone I don't like it so much.

Sleeping Beauty. And "fauna."

Blech.

I really like Flora!

Florence has drifted on and off of my list. If I were to use it, I'd want my daughter's nickname to be Flora. I would hate it if she were called Flo.

You're having a D-Day baby!

Just think of all the wonderful names you can work with: Ike, or Juno, or Nan or Mike or Winston...

Yeah! My son actually came right on his due date; maybe this baby will, too.

I think Flora is a really pretty name... except it reminds me of Sleeping Beauty, and is also a brand of margarine here. Otherwise I would probably like it.

It's fine. I'm not in love with it but I think it's interesting and quirky. It isn't my favorite of the -ora names, but they're kind of in now, with the old lady trend going on, so... ( I love Thora, and I think Dora, Cora, and Nora are nice too--I had a hard time thinking of Dora and Nora on a child at first, but if you actually imagine it on a cute little girl it's darling and entirely appropriate (like Emma, say)).

you know what? i think it is beautiful.

Fauna?

would never use it. knew a guy whose aunt was named Flora.. never really seemed like a 'real'name.

Reminds me of Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather from Sleeping Beauty. It's ok, but Sleeping Beauty and the little old fairy immediately came to mind when I saw it. =\
