Some celebrities aren't born with their beautiful names. So they are going to change it.

I don´t get it !!!

how does this work
you know celeb often change their names..
but shouldn´t their kids get their REAL last name ?
I´m a but confused about that at the moment
WDYT ?

David Bowie = David Robert Hayward-Jones
kids :
Duncan Zowie Bowie

Michael Landon = Eugene Orowitz
kids :
Mark Fraser Landon, born October 1, 1948 (adopted)
Josh Fraser Landon, born February 11, 1960 (adopted)
Leslie Ann Landon, born October 11, 1962
Michael Landon Jr., born June 20, 1964
Shawna Leigh Landon, born December 4, 1971
Christopher Beau Landon, born February 27, 1975

etc etc

and what about : Dido = Florian Cloud de Bounevialle Armstrong ? eewww..I only know florian for a boy....

Well it depends if they legally changed their names or merely use a stage name. 'Zowie Bowie' is legally Duncan Zowie Heywood Jones, similarly Rolan Bolan (son of Marc) is legally Rolan Seymour Feld. But most actors actually go through with the deed poll change to make it a legal change, after which their kids have the new surname.

If you do a legal name change, that name is your "real" name, and it goes down to the children. That's why Bob Dylan's son is Jakob Dylan, and not Jakob Zimmerman.

On the other hand, if you don't do a legal name change, the original name usually does go to the kids, which is why Martin Sheen's kids were born with the last name Estevez. (I have no idea if Charlie Sheen legally changed his name or not.)

if you wnat to change your name her (germany) you have to tell them some good reasons and spend much money...and you need good reasons ^^

In New York at least, you have to prove that you're not trying to escape criminal charges or commit fraud. And if you want to change your name to say, George Walker Bush, you have to especially prove that you're not trying to commit some sort of fraud using a famous person's name.

Otherwise, 'desire' is usually a good enough reason to change your name.

And in NYS it's about $210 for the court fees and $40 to put an ad in the local newspaper alerting... I think law enforcement?.. that you've changed your name. They give you some sort of official document and you have to go to the Social Security office to get a new SS card, and then you can change the rest of your documents.

Plus you can name a child whatever you want. It's not a legal hand-me-down thing - you pick the last name.

here is it only allowed to use the surname of the father or mother of the child ! nothing else !

Online? Most of the people who have changed their original names had their new names way before the Internet...

When they are known as a certain stage name, they just kind of "become" it.
