What do you all think of giving a little girl Jane as her middle name? I really love uncommon names, but I thought it would be kinder to my child to give an uncommon first name and a more common middle name so that they could always go by their middle name if they wanted to. I actually like Jane despite it being the quintessential female name.

I think it's fine.

It's like the female version of James. Filler middle name that goes with almost anything.

Jane really isn't all that popular. #466 in 2005. Only 642 of them born in the US last year.
I think it's lovely. I don't know what first names you're thinking of, but I really wish you'd consider Jane as a first name.

I like Jane. It can sound rather like second-though filler as a mn imo, but it beats the rest of those one-syllable names.

I've only ever known one Jane. It seems like a pretty uncommon name to me - I think the whole plain-Jane stereotype is highly outdated.

I completely agree with your reasoning, and agree that Jane is a perfect filler middle name.
As for us, we are going to go with Jade as a mn for a girl.

My name is Jane :)
It's not so very common now, I was the only one in my school until this year. Having said that, though, when I was four I had to go to hospital and of the eight nurse I saw, only one was not called Jane. Her name was Janet.

That said, it's a good name. Impossible to take the piss out of, really.

I love the name Jane I think it's femenine and sweet, I actually concidered it for a long time as a name I'd use for a baby girl =)

It's nice enough. I've known very few people with the first name Jane, but I would estimate that about half my friends at school had it as a middle name.

I love the name Jane! It's a perfect middle name and I totally agree with you that if giving an odd or uncommon first name, a common middle name is usually a good thing.

I ADORE the name Jane. Mostly because I love the book Jane Eyre. I would def use this as a mn for a girl.
