How do you all prefer to spell names ending in -lyn or-line? Does it depend on the name? On the pronunciation? Like Caro-lyn vs. Caro-line. nyone think it weird when a name spelled -line is pronounced -lyn.

I ask because I prefer -line. -lyn rubs me wierd. Hell, I don't even like-lyn/-line names, but I have absolutely fallen in love with a name that I want to use for our next daughter. The way I saw it, the only way I've seen it is spelled -lyn. And yes, I'm going to be mean and not mention the name, sorry. I guess I would feel weird changing it. I'm weird like that. I have to buy the first thing I see.. I apologize to stuffed animals for not buying them..

I finally got my husband to agree on this name. He thgouht I was kidding at first (we heard it in a movie, it is the name of an author).

He doesn't like my other name, though. I don't think anyone would. I'm sure I'll get shit from you guys(heh, like I won't for my cryptic -lyn vs. -line question and my stuffed animals statement), but I love Eulalia, the Spanish pronunciation: Eh-ooh-la-lia. Maybe I'll get him to use it for a middle name. :)

Thanks.

I guess for me it depends on how the name is pronounced. I know a Caroline that is pronounced like Carolyn.

Well, to me- the spellings are how they should be pronounced. I pronounce Caroline like Cah-roh-line. It confuses me how it can be done the other way.

really would depend on the name you like.
line rhymes with fine, lyn rhymes with fin.

I don't like Caroline at all, prefer Carolyn.
I love Caitlin spelt like that, Caitlyn irks me. It looks more made up..

My name is Madelynne and (without sounding egotistical), I love the spelling of my name. You'd have to be stupid to mispronounce it and I like that. I never get called the wrong pronunciation and it's worth having a less common spelling. Plus, I think it looks quite elegant the way it's written.

I just realized that I pronounce Caroline and Carolyn differently but I pronounce Madeline and Madelyn the same. Hmm.

I had a best friend names Caroline and it was pronounced Care-oh-line, but I know this one girl who's name is spelt Carolina but it's said Caro-oh-leen-ah.

It depends for me. If there's only one common way of spelling the name, I prefer it to be pronounced the way it's spelled. If it can be spelled two different ways, I want you to spell it and pronounce it the same way (Carolyn with -lyn and Caroline with -line). Otherwise that's just dumb to me because you have the perfect alternative. I don't have an actual preference overall as to which name ending I like better- I like Madeleine (pronounced Mad-e-lynn) better but I also like Caroline (with the -line).

I think that was more confusing than your entry lol. I'm also very curious as to what name you picked.

I am generally disposed to dislike -lyn because it has become a tacky tack-on for so many names. I am okay with Jocelyn, and I quite like Aralyn, and though I don't really care for Marilyn and Carolyn, they don't set my teeth on edge. Once we get to Madilyn and Aaralyn, though, I want to rip my hair out.

Without knowing the name, I can't give you any input.

Lyn and Line names sound different to me, I think it's just weird when I meet a Caroline that is pronounced Carolyn.

To me they're different names. Carolyn and Madelyn, say, are pronounced care-uh-lin and mad-uh-lin, whereas Caroline and Madeline are care-o-line and mad-uh-line. I much prefer -ine names, myself.

IAWTC, except I prefer -lyn names.

I like the spelling to match the pronunciation. So Caroline and Madeline are "line" not "lyn", until I'm corrected.

My friend Caroline hates "Carolyns" spelled with -line because people always mispronounce her name now. I know a little girl named Eulalia. She's adorable. We call her Eva [Eh-va]. Unless you live in a largely Spanish speaking area, you'll want to keep it a middle name though :).
