Upon scanning the local paper's obituaries the other day, I came across this name: Remembrance Faith Dowd. This was a 90-something woman, so I realize this is a roughly Victorian-era name from the rural Midwest, according to her obituary, but my initial reaction was something like "Remembrance? What kind of a name is THAT?!" Of course, it probably comes from the same school of thought that gives us names like Prudence (which I also don't care much for). Thoughts?

I think its endearing. Sort of like naming a daughter Patience. Ive heard of weirder regarding this trend, but damned if I can remember them right now.

Interesting.
I remember seeing an obituary for an elderly woman named Providence.

Was she born November 11th?

If she was 90-something, she was born before November 11 was in any way connected with remembrance.

It's quite lovely in a... quiet, stately sort of way? Not that I'd put it on my "real kid" list, but it has a certain charm.

Others commented about Patience and Providence as names - I like the feel of those, too.

I have a giant soft spot for Puritan names like this one. I would never saddle a child with any of them (except maybe Mercy?), but Remembrance is beautiful, in an abstract, Puritan way. I like it better than Temperance, and it's about a tie with Obedience.

True confessions of a barren name-addict.

Yeah, it's like the Puritans used to name their kids.
