[identity profile] ewaeva.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I usually just bitch and complain about everybody else's names, so I thought I'd post some I like. We hope to be having kids within the next year or two so this is a semi-practical discussion ;)

GIRLS

HANNA
this is a given, and has been my only choice for a first daughter since my grandma Hanna passed away when I was 12. It's annoying that it's so popular, but oh well.
ESTHER
love the look, love sound, love the story, love the nickname Esti. Swoon.
TERESA
for the many exemplary women named Teresa in history, and for the timelessness and strength of the name. I definitely want to use this.

HANNA ESTHER is my DREAM girl name.
Other combos:
Hanna Teresa
Teresa Miriam

I'd like to stick EUGENIA in there somewhere, after my other grandma and my great-grandpa Eugene, and because I like it, but it doesn't really fit anywhere.

BOYS

ADAM
The perfect international biblical masculine name, spelled the same way in lots of languages.
EZRA
Love the sound and the many traditions about the biblical Ezra.
SEBASTIAN
JEREMIAH
a great alternative to the boring Jeremy.
CHRISTOPHER
common, but it's my dad's name and my dad is the bomb ;)

Combinations
Adam Ezra
Adam Jeremiah
Sebastian Eugene (again, the grandma and great-grandpa)

I'm so bad at coming up with combos!

My taste:
1. Names that I would actually use have to be fairly "international" as I think we'll be spending a fair bit of time outside North America.

2. I study ancient Hebrew literature so I love Hebrew names, but am not Jewish - biblical names are great, but I don't think names that have traditionally only been used by Jewish families are appropriate for me to usurp, although I love many of them.

3. I hate names that are just some pretty sounds thrown together. They have to have a strong history and a strong sound. (Names that I think are bland and wishy-washy are, for example, most names with the sound -ay or -lyn.)

4. I HATE cute. Puppies are cute. Little girls will be women and I don't want any daughter of mine to be "cute." I want her to be strong, classy, and smart. With a name to match.

5. I'm a fan of spelling things right ;)

Comments, opinions, suggestions for other names I might like (lol, my list is so short!) are all welcome. Go ahead. I can dish it out AND I can take it ;)
