How did Logan suddenly become such a popular name for boys (and unfortunately now girls)? All I think of when I hear the name Logan is the Babysitters Club... I just think "dude, that's Mary Anne's boyfriend!" Has there been a TV character or something called Logan in the past few years? I see this name on lists ALL the time. I don't like it at all. It reminds me of... something. I can't pinpoint what it sounds like, though. It sounds so babyish though.

Logan is Wolverine in the X-Men series I'm unsure if that has anything to do with it but the movies did become very popular a few years ago.

I actually did like Logan but it has become way too popular for my taste.

X-Men is why we're tempted to use it. Though the husband insists we go all out, for "Wolverine Logan Weapon-X (Lastname)"

...Sigh. XD

We're such geek-nerds, it's a sad sad way to be.

Oh, please, my boyfriend wants to name our kids Hordak and Gargamel. Or nowadays he wants to name them Tokka and Razar (from TMNT2)

Or any other horrible geek name he comes across -_-;

Although I will admit I did grow to love the name Felicia thanks to Felicia Hardy (the Black Cat)

tokka and razar *barfs* that was one of the worst movies I've seen recently.

Logan is a character on the Gilmore Girls. Which, truthfully, is probably why a lot of people are using the name lately.

Yeah, also Dean and Luke are becoming pretty popular because of the show. It sucks when good names are used on popular TV shows, haha.

it ends in -an. that makes it automatically trendy.

I'm going to be horrible and admit I have a weakness for VC Andrews books. I loved the name Logan after reading that and I am sad it has become popular for other reasons. But it's better than that book's character Heaven, right?

I'm a fan of her too, I own everything up until the Willow series, which sucked.

I own them all too! The first Willow was bad but I had hopes for the rest. Sadly it did not improve and only got worse.

I know what you mean, I read the first Willow book, and thought it was kind of bad.. but had potential. I bought the second and didn't even finish it. Ever since I haven't bought another new one.

It's sad, because I was planning on using it if I ever had a boy, to honor my SO's grandfather.

I think there's also a Logan on Veronica Mars, but I'm not sure how many people watch that.

It reminds me of the words loogie and bogie for some reason.

I love the names Ashley, Courtney and Kelly for boys... but they're too popular.

Allison has always been a girl's name- it's the only name besides Mason I can think of where the -son suffix doesn't mean "son of".

It comes from the name Alice and an old french pet name suffix (it is what the name marion, ala maid marion comes from too).

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it is the Babysitter's Club that is influencing the taste of young mom's these days.

At 32, I was a bit old for those books when they came out, but it seems to me that women in their 20s were probably at the perfect age when they were young to eat up that whole series.

Also, it fits the trends of last-name-as-first-name and names-ending-with-an/on/en/in sounds.

I can't manage to get all my thoughts on this subject into one post...

Also, if you look at the data, this name began climbing in the 70s but really took off in the late 80s/early 90s. I really think Gilmore girls and especially Veronica Mars are too recent to be crediting with the trend in general (though for a few of the recent babies, it might have been a factor). I don't know anything about X-men and if or how that would influence parents. But given the time frame, Babysitter's Club makes a lot more sense as a specific influence outside of style-trends in general.

I'm naming my twins Briscoe and Logan after the Law & Order characters.

/sarcasm

It could also be due to Wolverine (Logan!) gaining popularity with the X-Men movies in recent years, maybe? That's the only other Logan I know of besides Mary Anne's boyfriend

Yeah I thought it was probably because of X-Men
