What do you think of these names?

Hello... I don't know whether or not I'm pregnant (my husband and I are "not trying, not preventing" -- long explanation for this, that I don't really feel like going into at the moment...it's all over at my private lj if you're interested), but if I am we definitely want to name our first child after my mother, who was diagnosed in August with terminal lung cancer, and my grandfather who passed away in early September from a massive heart attack. I'd really like some opinions about the names that we've chosen. These are our definite choices, so if your opinions are negative, please comment them tastefully and tactfully, or not at all. Thanks in advance.

For a girl: Aurora-Cinda Elizabeth, Hebrew name Sarah. Her nickname will be Rory. Aurora-Cinda is Latin, and it means "Cindy's dawn." Elizabeth is for my granddad.

For a boy: Cohen Edward, Hebrew name Seth. His nickname, if anything, will be Eddie -- off of Edward -- though we probably won't be shortening this name. Cohen would obviously be for my mom, and Edward for my granddad.

Our last name is 10 letters, two words, and it sort of rhymes. It's Italian in origin. We know that if we have a daughter first, her name is going to be really long, but we're okay with that.

Would, but proper Latin grammar requires that the subject come after the verb. In this case, "Cindy" is the subject, "dawn" is the verb.

Yes, but for the non Latin speakers (and I'd venture to say most of us are non-Latin speakers), I think it flows better as Cinda-Aurora.

I don't speak/read Latin, but if Aurora-Cinda really does translate to "Cindy's dawn", then I believe that both "Cindy" and "dawn" are nouns. Verbs can't be possessed.

That being said, I really like Aurora-Cinda, and the meaning behind it makes it even better.

Ditto. For 'dawn' to be a verb (as in the phrase "the day dawns"), it would be "Cindy dawns".

Actually, Latin doesn't care about word order, as long as you've declined properly. That said, Aurora is a much nicer name to have up front than Cinda, IMO.

To the OP, honestly, I don't like any of those, except Seth. I think Seth is a great name.
