I was at IHOP today and there was this woman there with her little (6 year old?) daughter named Angela. I don't know how she spells it, but it was pronounced an-JELL-uh. I don't know about you, but to me that is just so unnecessary. The poor kid is going to have her name mispronounced throughout her whole life. If I were her I'd just change it to AN-jell-uh when I got old enough to realize how dumb my parents were.

I don't think it's that stupid..
I mean sure it's not usual & people will mispronounce it but Angelica has the stress on the 'gel' it just so happens that Angela is the more common name.

My friend is called Anjeli pronounced an-jel-ee almost the same, so maybe it's Anjela.
I'm not saying I like it! Just that it's not the most illogical name i've seen.

maybe they were Italian. That is how you pronounce Angela in Italian.

I agree. I don't even understand why this is a large enough deal to post about. It's not like they're calling her an-geeeeee-lah or anything even remotely odd.

It doesn't actually sound too bad, but I can see your point if they were just trying to be "unique" by changing the stressed syllable of an existing name. However if they come from a country where that is the correct pronunciation it's understandable.

I, for one, agree that it is pretty goddamn stupid to name your child Angela and stress the middle syllable. So I agree with you.
