I see Madelyn, Madeline, and Madeleine as different names. Madeline to me sounds like line, -lyn sounds like lynne, and -leine sounds like "lehne" (kind of layne).
same here! i've always said madeline as MAD-uh-line, madelyn as MAD-uh-lihn and madeleine as mad-uh-LEEN or mad-uh-LANE. my mom, on the other hand, insists they're all MAD-uh-lihn. lol.
silly mom! they are totally different! my husband and I are big on all things French. Madeleine was our choice for a girl name for a long, long time, but we had so many hem-and-haw sessions over the potential for mispronunciation. and we weren't willing to change the spelling.

That's why I won't use the name Jeanne on a girl in the US. Everyone would say it like the pants or make it into separate syllables... but it's pronounced Zhahnne! :(
To me, Madeline is mad-uh-line. The "line" at the end of the name is a clear indication that it should be prononced like the word "line", no? I've never understood why people pronounce it "lynn". For it to be pronounced that way, it should be spelled Madelyn.
wtf? where'd my comment go. ack. anyway, same here. i've always said it that way too. my issue is that i like the "lynn" sound at the end but hate it spelled madelyn.
Madeline = either mad-uh-lyn or mad-uh-line. Whatever people want - I don't care. Madeleine looks the nicest to me, and I say it mad-uh-lehn. I'd sooner use this name than Madeline.
