Madeleine was our choice for a girl name for a long, long time, but we had so many hem-and-haw sessions over the potential for mispronunciation.

That's why I won't use the name Jeanne on a girl in the US. Everyone would say it like the pants or make it into separate syllables... but it's pronounced Zhahnne! :(

that always bothered me about jeanne, too! it's such a lovely name if people wouldn't make it into "jean" or "jee-nee."
