[identity profile] rubytitania.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Hi there, I'm new to this comm - not a mum and not expecting to be for a while. I just like thinking of names!

Anyway, what do you think of these names for a girl?

Cambria

and

Waverly

Cambria sounds more like a place and even if you like the group/band Coheed & Cambria, it doesn't sound like a good name to me for a kid.

I don't like Waverly either. Not sure why, but I don't. My roommate wonders if you got the name from Princess Bride (which she adores, but she doesn't like the name either).

Cambria is a lovely town in central California. :)

Well, the town isn't very big, and it's not super well-known (like Miami).

Cambria is a county in both Pennsylvania and Wales. I'm not a fan of it as a baby name, either.

Heh, and my roommate also said she thought Waverly was from a children's book or something like that. And she doesn't like it either.

all i think of when i see cambria is coheed & cambria. don't get me wrong, i dig the band but i don't think it makes a great name. waverly reminds me of home decor. maybe it's a brand or something. it just sounds familiar.

Coheed & Cambria for me. If it didn't have that connotation, it's still a very pretty word. Waverly is not my taste at all.

I like Cambria, but Waverly does only bring to mind boyishness.

I can't say I like either one; sorry! :} I think Waverly is masculine too.

I really don't care for either one. If I had to choose... well Cambria sounds more like a name than Waverly so I guess I'd pick that.

I really like both of them. Its Coheed & Cambria for me, too. But I'm also a huge fan of the group.

I don't know why, but Waverly makes me think of Sigourney Weaver, however I like it better as a name than the former mostly for a girl.

I like them both, but I dislike Y's on the ends of girls' names.

My husband and I honeymooned in Cambria, and visited Heart Castle. If I heard it as a person's name I'd be taken back by it at first, but probably get over it. People name their kids Brooklyn and Dallas [oh yes, I have encountered a Dallas], so it's no different.

Dallas isn't that uncommon. It's been as high at 214 and consistenly above the 400s in the last 100 years. I don't think people think it's THAT weird. I know an empty-nester named Dallas.

I think Cambria is pretty.

Waverly makes me think of paint brands and wallpaper. Flowery stuff.

I like Waverly, but then, I live in Greenwich Village. Cambria makes me think of the beginning of the Paleozoic era (Cambrian Period.) Which only proves that I'm a total dork.

Cambria is ok but Waverly makes me think of this wafty, wavering little waif, that is kind of half floating there in the air, but with no real presence or personality...

haha, I know this is an old post BUT I must say.

I actually like the name Cambria, but seeing as how I have a Coheed and Cambria tattoo. Well, that's just a little much.
Waverly sounds okay. Not great, not awful.
