I understand your dilemma, but I would suggest using the oldest person's nickname for your child because that would be the least confusing I would think.
I like this idea too. I like the sound of James Shannon better than any of the other suggestions (e.g. Jackson Shannon).
I actually know someone with a baby named James and he is... the third? fourth maybe. anyway, they do call his dad Jimbo occasionally, more like a nn of a nn than "hi my name is Jimbo". so the baby became 'baby Jimbo' and they end up calling him just Bo a lot of the time. It's a seemingly random nn but I think it's cute and a bit better than having another Jim, Jimmy, Jamie.
i have personal reasons why i hate james(you know them). But it is a good name. i know some about why you picked the middle name so im leaving that one alone.
I think it's all fine. Love James, Jack is a perfectly fine nickname for it. If it can be a nickname for John then why not for James too? I don't actually like Shannon, but since it's a middle name, James Shannon doesn't bother me (although it would depend on the last name of course)
I'm going to go against the crowd here and say I love Shannon on a boy. I have a guy friend named Shannon and he's wonderful, so that may be why. I don't like it on a girl though.
Shannon Sharpe was the best trash talker in football. That's the only thing I think of when I hear the name for a boy, so I don't mind it. I love Jack and your reason for using the name James.

I don't understand why someone would name their kid James and then call him Jack. Sounds a little pointless to me.

I like Jack. It could work ;)
It just might be confusing for the kid at school or something?
