I understand your dilemma, but I would suggest using the oldest person's nickname for your child because that would be the least confusing I would think.
I like this idea too. I like the sound of James Shannon better than any of the other suggestions (e.g. Jackson Shannon).
I actually know someone with a baby named James and he is... the third? fourth maybe. anyway, they do call his dad Jimbo occasionally, more like a nn of a nn than "hi my name is Jimbo". so the baby became 'baby Jimbo' and they end up calling him just Bo a lot of the time. It's a seemingly random nn but I think it's cute and a bit better than having another Jim, Jimmy, Jamie.
