Sep. 22nd, 2006 08:45 pmHello, everyone!
I just want to start off by saying how much I freaking love this community.
Alright, after lots of thinking, I think I finally decided on two names that I might use for my future kids. I'm Puerto Rican, so in the back of my mind there's always been that thought of, "I hope my family can pronounce it." It's a challenge.
So I tried to pick names that sound both good in English and in Spanish.
For a boy: Jayden Abdiel. (Abdiel is from the Bible, and my parents, who thought my sister was actually a boy, were going to name my sister that. I've always liked it.)
For a girl: Adiana (Ah-dee-on-ah) Sarai (Sir-eye). (Sarai is actually my name, and although first days of school were absolute hell, I love my name. In Spanish it's suh-rah-eeee. Yeah, I tried.)
What do you think?

Definitely won't be using Jayden. I talked to my mom today, and she tried to say it in Spanish, and it just didn't flow right. At all.

Date: 2006-09-23 02:58 am (UTC)I can't imagine it sounding good in Spanish, either.
I really like your girl's name though :)

Date: 2006-09-23 09:23 am (UTC)I don't like Adiana either, but I do like Sarai. For the longest time, I thought that's how Tom and Katie pronounced Suri. When I figured out that they pronounced Suri "Sir-ee", I was disappointed. Sir-eye is a much better pronunciation.

Date: 2006-09-24 05:42 am (UTC)But I have to agree with most here - Jayden isn't my cup of tea. It's going to scream "I WAS BORN IN THE 2000s!!!" in... well, about four years. His name is going to rhyme with a third of the male population's, practically. He's almost guaranteed to be one of at least several rhyming names in his classes, if not one of several Jaydens. I'd choose another fn, honestly, or at least swap them - Abdiel Jayden - to where when someone says, "Hey Jayden?," he's not always going to have to ask, "Which one?"
Adiana Sarai is very pretty. I'd probably prefer Adriana Sarai, but they're both nice.
