Yes.. I'm pretty much stuck on Cheyenne.
I still can't find any middle names for it though.
Any ideas would be awesome thanks.
The last batch wern't what I was looking for, so any new comers feel free.

A girl I know wants to name her son Maximillion
What do you think?
Personally .. I don't like it.. at all.
Maximus in my opinion would be a cuter Max name.

Do you mean MaximilliAn? I think it's fine. Maximus sounds way pretentious, but also reminds me of gluteus maximus (the medical term for ass).

As for Cheyenne, add me to the list of people who think it's tacky and disrespectful. So, no middle name suggestions here.

i can't help with cheyenne because i'm aboslutely offended by the the thought of using that as a baby name. sorry. i think a short middle name might work best though since cheyenne is a very strong first name.

why not just max? it's like jack. cute as a nickname but also works as a full first name. with a longer middle name, i think it's awesome. i think maximus is too over the top for a first name. maximillian is okay but it also just sounds way too comical to be taken seriously. maxwell, maybe? i don't know.

Because it's a Native American group of people and not a name.

Um, for the record, I was responding as to why someone might find it offensive.

It's NOT a name. It's a word that's been turned into a name. I don't consider word/place names to be names. I just don't. I think they're stupid. Just because people used it, doesn't mean it was intended to be a name. A hundred million wrongs don't make a right.

yeah i did kind of realize that after i posted.

i guess i forget because the only cheyenne i know IS half native american so it's not really seen as disrespectful to us...

i think using a tribal name such as cheyenne is offensive because the traditional native american meaning of the word is in regards to an entire group of people and it's hardly a tribute to tack such a powerful word on someone as an individual. there are other native names that have meanings outside of being an entire tribe of people that are more suitable, in my opinion.

of course, it's your child and your decision and you're free to use whatever you want. i do like the aesthetic of cheyenne. it sounds beautiful and looks as nice written. :D

I like Maximillian much better than Maximus. Like the first poster, it reminds me of "gluteus".

For the record, you can relax. I wasn't saying it rudely, as your reply came off.
It just is offensive. Why don't you go speak to some real Cheyenne natives before you name your child that? Perhaps they'll give you a better perspective on it.

A hundred million people can't be wrong?
Huh.
I guess the earth really is flat.
I better alert the media.

The logic astounds me...

yeah, i totally see what you're saying. i'd much rather see it spelled cheyenne than something creative because then it would get spelled wrong all the time anyway, ya know? i say if you want to use it, you should.

i figure no matter what you choose, someone somewhere will have issues with it. i'm choosing a french name for my daughter even though i'm not of french descent so i get a lot of crap about that. i just shrug it off. ;)

madeline, with the traditional french pronounciation. i'm in love with it. my son's name is noah, which is obviously a very traditional bibilical name. people automatically assumed i'd choose another hebrew name for this baby but whatever. i dig madeline. :D

I'm not worked up, thanks.

And I find it hard to believe that a true Native American who knew anything about their culture would name their child Cheyenne. That's like saying you're italian so you're going to name your child Italy. It's just illogical.

But whatever. It's your kid, and I don't really care. Just be prepared for some snarking, and for offense to be taken. That's all.
