Seriously! My husband will NOT give up REX as the first name if we ever have a son!
We're probably going to wait another year or so to even have a baby but he's insisting that if it's a boy we name the poor guy REX.
I've suggested so many other names and I'm just plain out of ideas.
He likes the "x" sound.
He doesn't like trendy names.
He doesn't like common names.
He doesn't like anything other than Rex it seems.
Anyone care to help?

Date: 2006-09-13 12:43 am (UTC)We're going to do Dax. Love it, both of us do. Parents/fambly/friends will hate it but it takes me + him to make a baby and not them!
Max isn't bad either. It's trendy for pets, but I love it for boys actually. I know two real life "Max's" and they seem to be functioning well.

Date: 2006-09-13 12:44 am (UTC)What is it about Rex that you don't like?
What sorts of names do YOU like?
I knew a guy named Dax once.. not sure if it's legit, but it worked for him.

Date: 2006-09-13 02:00 am (UTC)I don't think Rex is a great name for anything, though. It means "king" in Latin, so maybe go for something deriving from King and your hubby can call him Rex all he wants!

Date: 2006-09-13 08:52 am (UTC)I do like Dex and it's awfully close to Rex.. read that you liked it, too, so good luck.
Giggle.. Just thought of this.. You could name the boy "Tyran" or "Tyrann" after Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur, and call him Rex as a nickname. ;)
Tell your vagina to think x-chromosomes!!
Date: 2006-09-13 11:17 am (UTC)I believe in giving husbands equal say-so, but I also believe in veto-power if your spouse picks a name you truly just cannot stand. I am very open to my husband's choices, but his two favorites are Mary and Alice, probably two of the worst most boring names I could think of(his whole family has very boring English names, come to think of it-- Albert(him and his dad, he goes by Ted, though), Susie(his mom), Amanda(his sister), May(his Grandma). At least his sister is marrying someone with an interesting, albeit not so great, name (Reeve).
We managed to agree on a name for our oldest daughter, but it was my idea. I want to let him use Mary Alice, but ugh.. that and our daughter died so, I feel I should pick the next name, too. My kids must have cool names!
At least we've agree on boys' names(David Christopher, and Jonah Edward so far). OUr girl names ar e abit more unusual.
You might try something like Rexyn or Lex a name that starts with X, like Xander.
You might compromise and make it a middle name and let him call him that, but that name is guaranteed to get teasing if ehe uses it at school.

Date: 2006-09-13 05:38 pm (UTC)My dad's name is Douglas Reid, but he NEVER goes by Douglas. Always Reid.
Same with my uncle (Jeffrey Scott).
Tell him that's you're final offer because YOU'RE the one poppin' out babies, plus, that's a happy middle.
