Seriously! My husband will NOT give up REX as the first name if we ever have a son!

We're probably going to wait another year or so to even have a baby but he's insisting that if it's a boy we name the poor guy REX.

I've suggested so many other names and I'm just plain out of ideas.

He likes the "x" sound.
He doesn't like trendy names.
He doesn't like common names.
He doesn't like anything other than Rex it seems.

Anyone care to help?

What about Alex, Alexander or Exxon [not recommended just throwing it out there].

Dex isn't bad, short for Dexter...or on it's own.

We're going to do Dax. Love it, both of us do. Parents/fambly/friends will hate it but it takes me + him to make a baby and not them!

Max isn't bad either. It's trendy for pets, but I love it for boys actually. I know two real life "Max's" and they seem to be functioning well.

I love Rex.
What is it about Rex that you don't like?
What sorts of names do YOU like?

I knew a guy named Dax once.. not sure if it's legit, but it worked for him.

Max? Or would that be too common?

(If you don't like it don't make fun! I already named my son Maxwell!

Rexy is my nickname, and I get called Sexy Rexy all the time. I love it.

I don't think Rex is a great name for anything, though. It means "king" in Latin, so maybe go for something deriving from King and your hubby can call him Rex all he wants!

I actually like Rex. USELESS TRIVIA TIME!: I know an 18yo guy named Rex who is really interesting. He rides his bike everywhere and is the best drummer I've ever heard. :)

i think it's cute too. it is one of those "total geek" names that doesn't sound totally geeky to me anymore. like preston, dexter, baxter... haha, i googled "geek names" and it thought i meant "greek names."

I think of a dog too.. =/ When it was first suggested to me when I was preggo, I was like, "ewww" and then it really grew on me. I really like it now. He'd prolly be the only one in his class. ;)

First of all, I'd tell him to take his "this name and only this name" attitude and shove it up his a**. The baby is half yours, and don't let him forget that you'll be birthing him or her.

That being said...

Baxter
Calix (means "very handsome")
Dixon
Felix
Knox
Paxton

Lex is my dads name, and I *love* it. Not Alex, just L E X.

I'd name my son that, but it doesn't go with his first name. :)

Me too. Inspector Rex and Tyrannosaurus Rex.
I have met an old man called Rex though. I don't think it makes a good name for a human, I hope you can find something to replace it!

I think Rex sounds like a dog's name, too. You do not have to agree to any name you are completely set against. It's something you have to come up with together and agree upon.

I do like Dex and it's awfully close to Rex.. read that you liked it, too, so good luck.

Giggle.. Just thought of this.. You could name the boy "Tyran" or "Tyrann" after Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur, and call him Rex as a nickname. ;)

Tell your vagina to think x-chromosomes!!

Er, I would use it as a nickname maybe. You might try using some name that is like it.. Terrance or something.. Reginald. You could tell him you'll only use Rex if the middle name is Tyranosaurus; maybe he'll back down. I'm sure Rex is short for something, you might do some searches and tell him you don't wnat to use a nickname as a name?
I believe in giving husbands equal say-so, but I also believe in veto-power if your spouse picks a name you truly just cannot stand. I am very open to my husband's choices, but his two favorites are Mary and Alice, probably two of the worst most boring names I could think of(his whole family has very boring English names, come to think of it-- Albert(him and his dad, he goes by Ted, though), Susie(his mom), Amanda(his sister), May(his Grandma). At least his sister is marrying someone with an interesting, albeit not so great, name (Reeve).
We managed to agree on a name for our oldest daughter, but it was my idea. I want to let him use Mary Alice, but ugh.. that and our daughter died so, I feel I should pick the next name, too. My kids must have cool names!

At least we've agree on boys' names(David Christopher, and Jonah Edward so far). OUr girl names ar e abit more unusual.

You might try something like Rexyn or Lex a name that starts with X, like Xander.

You might compromise and make it a middle name and let him call him that, but that name is guaranteed to get teasing if ehe uses it at school.

:) LOL, my husband has agreed to name the cats after star-trek characters.. so far there has been no discussion of naming the children after star trek characters.

Dax is cool.. name of a Star-trrek character thoguh, so I could see why some might not like it.

Ya know, many pregnant couples come up with nicknames for baby while in the womb. You might try using Rex as just a special name between the three of you. When our duaghter was in the womb we called her Thundercles. :)

Tell him you'll settle for it as a middle name.

My dad's name is Douglas Reid, but he NEVER goes by Douglas. Always Reid.

Same with my uncle (Jeffrey Scott).

Tell him that's you're final offer because YOU'RE the one poppin' out babies, plus, that's a happy middle.
