Last night I was discussing names with my husband and these are the names and some combos that top our boys list. We like a couple of different combos and so I thought I would turn to you guys, my trusted name critics, for some opinions. Here are the names individually, and the combos that we prefer:

Titus
Elijah
Aaron (will be used only as a middle name, as it's my husband's middle name and 2 of my cousin's first names, so using it as a first would be confusing at family get togethers)
Adam (my brother's name, so again, only a middle name)
Isaac
Ian
Malachi (only considered as a middle name)

Combos:

Titus Aaron
Titus Adam
Titus Ian
Elijah Aaron
Elijah Adam
Elijah Malachi
Isaac Adam
Isaac Aaron
Ian Elijah
Ian Adam (really not sold on this one)

I personally also love the name Silas, but my husband is completely not sold. Silas Adam has such a nice ring to me, but alas. =)

TIA for your opinions. Are there any other combos you think would sound better? (Feel free to toss in names that arent on this list that you think sound good with the names that are.)

Not a big fan of Titus.

My personal favorite is Elijah Adam.

Malachi reminds me of the evil guy in The Children of the Corn.
Not only that, but Mal means bad, and I wouldn't want my child's name to mean "bad."

Malachi is a Hebrew name. It means "messenger of God." Nothing to do with "bad." (Although I do understand that in the English language mal as a prefix has a bad connotation, Malachi isnt an English name, so the rules of English language (mal=bad) don't apply to it.)

I've never seen Children of the Corn. It's a Biblical name, and that's its appeal to me.

Well, in that case, it's not so bad.

I suggest you never see The Chidren of the Corn, otherwise your liking of the name might be reduced.

I totally don't get The Children of the Corn thing with Malachi. Why do people get weird about Malachi but are fine with Issac? (who is a much creepier character, imo) Both of them were rare names around the time the movie came out.

My thoughts exactly! I guess because Malachi is a less heard of name? You are right though - between the two, I'd certainly pick Malachi as the less disturbing. =/

i really like your taste! i like the names isaac and elijah, and i love ian. i don't care too much for your combos, though. :( to me, none of them flow together really well. you seem to really like hebrew names (me too). here are some ideas using other hebrew names:

elias adam
elijah david
isaac josiah
jacob ian
nathanael aaron
titus daniel
zechariah aaron

i don't love isaac josiah, but i couldn't find another hebrew name that goes well with isaac. it's a great name, though. i really like silas adam, so i hope maybe you and your husband will like elias adam cause it's similar. i also think jacob ian sounds fabulous together, and ian jacob could even work too (depending on your last name).

I've tried to convince hubby that Elias is a good name, but that's a no go.
David is my uncles name.
I don't like Josiah.
I like Jacob Ian.
Hubby has a cousin named Nathanael, but I do like it very much.
I really really dislike Daniel.
I LOVE Zechariah, but once again.. that whole hubby thrown in the mix thing *grin*

I really do appreciate your suggestions=) Can you pinpoint what doesnt seem to flow to you? Right now Titus Aaron is our #1 boy's name and Elijah Malachi/Adam is second. Elijah Malachi is a kind of a mouthful, but I do think it flows alright.

out of all the combos, i probably like titus aaron the best, but i don't know why..it just doesn't seem to flow very well to me. with elijah malachi, i think it's the double "uh" sound (eli-JUH mal-UH-ky) that throws me off. i really really do like your taste in names, though! i was going to suggest the name micah too, but if i remember right, that's your husband's name! haha

Titus Austin is the only other suggestion I have.

I like Isaac Adam the best of those combos.
I also like Elijah Malachi

Titus as is "tight ass"?

haha=) It always get's said by someone. *grin* I know the downfalls of naming a child Titus... We will most likely call him Ty. Actually, I was more worried about his middle school years and the fact that he would have Tit in his name. *shrug* Even with it's downfalls, I still love the name dearly. Besides, maybe he really will have a tight ass and if someone teases him in that manor he can just say, "damn straight." =)

If you're going to use Ty, consider other Ty names like Tyler and Tyrone. Titus is highly likely to be teased for the name.. That's the thing my DH is most concerned about regarding names. I think Titus would get the nickname "Titties". :( Oh.. or you could spell Titus as Tytus maybe.. ? Just trying to help.

Yea, We've been through the possibilities. At first we considered Tidus to stray from him having tit in his name. In the end, I've settled on the fact that the name should be spelled properly and it's a strong name that can stand on its own, in my (any many others) opinion. I do appreciate your suggestions, but if he's not teased about his name he'll be teased about something else. It's a rite of passage, and eventually they'll grow out of it. If our future son is anything like his mother, he'll be sarcastic and secure enough to handle teasing, whether it's because of his name, the way he looks, or the fact that his father is a band director.

I actually did a poll of both my friends, college age males I know, and a few random ones I found online, and everyone said that they liked the name Titus and (in college) would probably be over making fun of the name-- except one, who said he'd only make fun of it when he was drunk. =)

Hmm.... "did a poll of both my friends" sounds like I said I only have 2 friends... I polled 1.) my friends, 2.) college males I know, and 3.) a few random people online.

well, hopefully the people you were polling are now old and mature enough to not make fun of peoples names, but do you really think 12 year old boys aren't going to make fun of a kid with the word tit in his name? especially if your kid turns out to be unpopular for whatever reason. hopefully adults would refrain from such teasing, but i don't think you can credit junior high kids with that same maturity.

Nevertheless, I see Titus as a very strong name, one that will grow with him into adulthood and he's only going to be in middle school a short time compared with how long he will be an adult.

Sorry, but I hate the argument of "well he's gonna be teased about something, anyway!" You're still giving the kids ammunition. Why name him something you KNOW he'll be teased about? I hope that after being teased all through school, HE thinks it's a strong name that suits him. Most people I know who were teased about their names hate them.

I'm not justifying giving my son a "teasable" name by saying he's going to be teased about something anyway, but the truth in the matter is, kids tease kids. If he's not teased for his name (even WITH the name Titus), he's GOING to be teased for something. It happens. That's when it's a parents responsibility to teach the child about self-esteem and self-respect.

You assume that having the name Titus inherently means he WILL be called titties or tight ass or something else in a negative connotation. This isnt necessarily true. Is there possibility he will be teased? Maybe. But as I mentioned before, he will most likely go by Ty anyway. Yes, there are downfalls to the name Titus, I'm willing to admit that. But my point still stands that he will be a child much less time than he will be an adult. And my opinion on the matter wont be changed. The decision to go ahead and use the name Titus wasnt made in a matter of seconds. My husband and I have discussed it extensively-- including the possibility of teasing and variations of the name for that purpose. It stills remains that we love the meaning/story behind the name, believe it to be a strong name, love the name itself, and will use it. It's not like he's going to be the first boy in history to ever have the name Titus. I'm sure there are plenty of well adjusted men named Titus who made it through puberty and all that goes with it just fine and still like their name.

Okay, fine, if you like the name use it. Whatever.

Why did you ask for opinions if you were just going to jump on anyone who had one that wasn't the same as yours?

I didn't intend to jump on you, but if that's how it seemed to you, I do apologize. I just wanted to make sure it didn't appear that the name was considered without any forethought as to how it might affect him growing up. I absolutely and completely see every point you made-- I thought the same things and had the same reservations myself, and openly admitted them as well. Our opinions dont necessarily differ, just our conclusions. I was just trying to show some of the rationale behind why we would still use the name.

i love Silas. my husband says it makes him think of silos on the farm, so it's a no go. but i love it.

Titus brings up a greek myth reference to me, or maybe that's the titans, and ive crossed it with atlas lol, i dont know. its a cool name though! & obviously Adam, bilically the first man.

Titus is an Ancient Roman, New Testament Biblical name which means "honorable." The man Titus accompanied the Apostle Paul (who wrote a large majority of the New Testament) on his missionary journies. He also was the recipient of one of Paul's letters. (New Testament book of Titus, also called the Epistle to Titus.) Just a fun little FYI =)
