My husband and I will most like start TTC next year. We've had our boy's name picked out for years now; Anthony William. My husband is the third Anthony in his family, and my dad is William. Goes well together, we think, and sounds nice.

Now, the dilemma.

We've always loved Emily for a girl. I've thrown around Amelia/Emilia, too, and he seems OK with those options. I'd like to give her the choice to have a longer name in case she'd like one....also I like all the nickname possibilities that Amelia/Emilia provides (Emma, Emily, Lia, Mia, etc). We've also thrown around Anna as another possibility. Which do you prefer? Anastasia isn't out of the running yet, either, or another longer form of Anna.

My real question is on female middle names. My husband's mom passed away when he was eleven, so we'd like to honor her in some way. Her name was Diane. I'd also like to honor my mom, too, who has played a major role in my life. My mom is Cecelia. Combining these two names together, the only somewhat realistic names I get are Ceane (Cee-ann) or Dilia. Which, I have no idea, just seem odd to me. I researched some and found that Maya means mother. Any thoughts on any of the suggestions above, or am I out of my league here, LOL.

Instead of Dilia how about Delilah which is kind of similar? And also I like Emily Delilah, Emily is definitely my favorite of your choices.

Emily Delilah was my first thought, too.

Delia would work.

Delia or Dahlia both sound nice to me.

You could also do 2 middle names - Emily Cecilia Diane sounds pretty to me.

I wouldn't know how to pronounce Ceane.

Delia might work as a combined name. It has the sounds of both and--this is a stretch, but Delia means 'of Delos', which is where Artemis and Apollo were born. Diana is the Roman version of Artemis.

But it wouldn't work too well if you decide to go with Amelia, I suppose! It would be a little too Amelia Bedelia. :-)

I agree that Delia sounds and looks better than Dilia. Emily Delia is cute.

How about using the first halves of both names... Cedia? Cecedi? Or, agree that Delia could work. But then Emily Delia would probably work better than Amelia Delia.

I love all the suggestions you've gotten so far! I just wanted to address the Emily/Amelia thing. In my opinion, If you want to call her Emily, I wouldn't name her Amelia. I feel like that would be an odd stretch for a nn. And Amelia isn't really a much longer name than Emily. I think both age equally well too, so if its between those two, is suggest naming her what you think you'll call her, then consider the nickname.

Combining the Lia from Cecelia and Ane from Diane... Lianne (pronounced Lee-ann).

Normally I don't like combinations where the last part of one name and the first part of the other are the same...but I like the sound of Amelia/Emilia Lianne (I prefer the Amelia spelling) or Emily Lianne.

Even Anastasia Lianne isn't too bad.

What about Liane? It has the Lia part of Cecelia and the Iane part of Diane. :)
