[identity profile] mooie-ziel.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
For those of you who are just simply interested in why & what certain people name their children, I'd suggest reading this: Chapter Six "Would a Roshanda by Any Other Name Smell as Sweet" of Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner.

It discusses why there are trends in certain names like Madison and Emma. I don't want to say anything specifically what the data said about what names were most common among low income/education and high income/education families since I know people would probably be offended.

I will leave you with the author's prediction of what could be Most Popular Names of 2015[or anytime sooner I'd presume]

no its clear that those are names that are supposed to be popular in 2015. what i want to know is what are the high income ones and what are the ill-educated(or whatever) ones?
dont leave it out!

So all of the names, not just one column or another, are what the highly educated people are using now?

the columns are just alphabetical... if you look at the names you see that

I saw they were alphabetical but I was wondering if one alphabetical column stood for one thing and the other for something else. That's why I asked.

Glad to see none of my beloved names are on there. I'm a little confused as to why there are two columns though, separated by the numourous periods. Clarification?

Hmm interesting

Yeah I can see quite a few of those getting popular as they are ...
# already common with no sign of let up [e.g Emma, Aidan]
# quite 'board popular'* right now [e.g Maeve, Beckett]
# common in other countries (net being international and all) [e.g Oliver, Sophie]
# encompass other trends [e.g surnames, Celtic etc]

Would be suprised if Harper was ever common for boys though, with such a strong tie to the female writer. Marie-Claire seems an odd choice too, because of the magazine and all.

Suppose we'll just have to wait and see :)

*i.e. get mentioned/discussed a fair bit by nerds like us :), but not necessarily common irl.

Ew, I wouldn't use any of these names except for Asher, and even then I wouldn't call that a males name...

Have you seen the names she has posted? I think that would explain why she doesn't like any of these. ;)

Well, I'm glad to see that Asher won't be tops til 2015, I plan to have my Asher a few years before that.
But I'm confused as to why there are two lists for boys and girls, are they both possible lists for 2015, or is one now and one 2015?

Great, the name we picked is on the list. I didn't even think it was very common.

Wow, those alphabetical columns really confused a lot of people, lol.

I don't believe Clementine, Flannery, or Marie-Claire are going to be superstars. Or Keyon, wtf is that anyway?

haha I was thinking the same thing... glad there are some other intelligent people on this list (i.e. you).

It's not in proper alphabetical order, so that would be why no one saw it that way.

AND I know two sisters named Angel & Destiny (not sure if she uses this spelling or not). Angel has a daughter named Mykenzee.

I also know a Brandi who named her kid Dawson.

let's just say that they all totally fit this category & are passing it on via their children. so maybe it should be all that offensive if it's true?
