[identity profile] redfield79.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
We find out what our baby's gender is in about a week and I'm cursed with to hyphen or not to hyphen.

We're doing a gender reveal but I want to have created a poster thing for us to show the names and say them because we're going to send this video to a lot of family across the country and deaf people.

So we want to set it up with the boy name we've chosen and the girl since we wont know prior to this day and it'll be a surprise for us too. I'm just a little stuck on the girl name. This might also frustrate you as I will not be releasing the first name(a couple real life people followstalk me on the web) yet but if you could still tell me what you think I'd greatly appreciate it! :)

Both names we've had picked out in their exact form since our first year of dating which was about 6 years ago.

BUT how to write it out is tricky. Let me try to explain...

My mother is my whole life, best friend and #1. Husband is well aware. :) So we're going to use her middle name if we have a daughter. However, not a big fan of "Lynn" as a name, just a personal thing! Nothing against it.

And we want to add that to the name we've picked out for her first name that we love!!! BUT I can only think of Ted and the JamieLynn, CarrieLynn, SammieLynn...joke.

I'm also a massive massive MASSIVE Beatle fan and have been since BIRTH and I know it's crazy and you'll all hate it but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to have her middle name be Strawberry since our last name is Fields. Her first name is normal though! Haha. Relatively.

So it would be...

First name is ONE syllable and flows well.

Name-Lynn Strawberry Fields Hard to see with the strike out but this was the hyphen.
NameLynn Strawberry Fields
Namelynn Strawberry Fields

OR
Name Lynn Strawberry Fields

Can't do polls here? :(

Help? TIA

EDIT TO ADD: Since quite a few people like the four name idea...would it sway your vote if you knew that the first name was primarily a boys name but I feel SHOULD be a girls name?

edit to add again: Honorable mention to [livejournal.com profile] r0ck_y0ur_s0ul for guessing the name out of the blue with no hints! LOL. Thank you for deleting your comment too. :)

I like no-hyphen, but I blame Ted for that ;)

I say 4. It gives her the option of tucking Lynn away in case Ted lives on as classic cinema ;)

That said I went to college with a Firstname Lee. They left Lee off her dorm room sign so she decided to go with it, see how she liked it. The next year she was demanding her Lee back.

Firstname-Lynn Strawberry Fields

Having a one syllable first and last name stinks. My maiden name and first name are one syllable each and I really wish my name sounded more melodic. If you go with Firstname-Lynn she can be called that or use just Firstname. It also gives her the option of not using Strawberry to avoid a lot of teasing.

No hyphen.

Edit to clarify: First Name Lynn Strawberry Fields :)

And I totally love the Strawberry Fields thing. I wouldn't be able to pass that up either :)

I still would do it alone :)

And he sounds like a good one, my husband is soooo picky about names. He shot down my favorite boy name ever, but he's lucky I love him. :P

Name Lynn Strawberry Fields

Nothing wrong with 2 middles and gives her the option to use or not use Lynn as she sees fit as she gets older.

I'm on board with the rest... no hyphen. And now I'm extremely curious as to what first name you chose!

Given that it's often a boyname I would go with Namelynn (or Namelyn? is that on the table?) Strawberry Fields, as long as it looks nice visually to have an L after whatever it ends with.

If it were at all a girl-leaning unisex name, like, say, Brett, I would say just go for Brett Lynn. But if it's almost always a boy (check Name Voyager?) like, say, Brock, I would do Brocklynn.

You've piqued my curiosity hugely now!

Ah, okay, if you were talking about one of the main actors' names then I think I get what you're saying and I'd definitely go with Namelynn.

I agree with the unisex name being separated Name Lynn. Mainly male name being Namelynn.

I would go with Name Lynn Strawberry Fields. I don't the hyphen, and the idea of it actually being part of the first name... yeah, can't really say how much I hate it, lol.

DEFINITELY 'Name Lynn Strawberry Fields.' I've taught a lot of children with hypenated names (like Sienna-Rose and Rubie-Brooke) and the hyphen is wasted. The names always get shortened to 'Sienna' or 'Rubie.'

I would consider a name with Lynn /lyn in it. Like Caelyn/Kaylin
But otherwise I would do name Lynn not hyphenated

Is "Fields" the last name or is there another last name added to this?

Ok nevermind reading comprehension fail! I say Name Lynn Strawberry Fields.

Since you won't tell us what the boy name is, but it's one syllable and vaguely unisex ... please tell me you're not naming her Drew Lynn because ... drooling!

I love Strawberry as a middle name. You guys get 4 stars!

I'm torn. It would depend on the name. If its over 5 characters like James Lynn or Reese Lynn, I would keep it as two words. If its shorter, like an Evan or Ash, I would go with Evan-Lynn(to avoid Everlyn confusion) and Ashlynn.

I would be hestiant to announce the spelling right away. You have 5 months to change your mind. With my second, we didn't finally decide on his name until I was 37 weeks pregnant. Just don't want you to pressure yourself to decide!

No hyphen.

I prefer the four names to any of the other option. And no, it doesn't sway my vote that the first name was primarily a boys' name. Actually, that makes me vote for 4 names even harder, since I think MasculinenameLynn might sound even weirder.

But this way, Jamie Lynn has the option of going by Jamie Lynn, or Jamie, or Lynn, or J.L.

And normally I would totally roll my eyes at the middle name Strawberry, but with the last name it really fits and I would be highly amused. And she never has to use it if she doesn't want to, lol!

If it's a name that is predominately a boy's name, I think having "Lynn" part of the name rather than just a second middle name is important. Though...and I seem to be in the minority here, I'd do it as a hyphen. I guess, honestly, it all depends on the name. For example...If it were something like Blake....I actually kind of like the name Blakelynn. Where as if it was something like Sawyer, I'd prefer Sawyer-Lynn.

Maybe you can just add "lynn" without a hyphen or a capital "L".

Sarahlynn, Marilyn, Carrielynn....whatever you like.

Also, a good friend of mine in high school (who is now an NFL player) his middle name is Lynn! He is Joshua Lynn. I think that is his dad's first name.

It's hard. Without knowing the first name, I can't really decide what sounds better. I'm not completely opposed to Namelynn if the name sounds lovely with it. But without knowing, I'd go with Name Lynn Strawberry Fields. So, Namelynn Strawberry Fields if it sounds nice, Name Lynn Strawberry Fields if not. We're planning on going with two middle names, and it feels more and more common now, and I think having 2 middles is fun---no complaints from me!

Also, when I read the title of the post, I was so excited to comment and be like "HYPHEN! DO IT!" because I thought you were talking about last names, and I'm a big fan of hyphenated last names! Weirdly, my enthusiasm doesn't extend to hyphenated first names.
