To Hyphen or Not to Hyphen?
Aug. 22nd, 2013 12:26 pmWe find out what our baby's gender is in about a week and I'm cursed with to hyphen or not to hyphen.
We're doing a gender reveal but I want to have created a poster thing for us to show the names and say them because we're going to send this video to a lot of family across the country and deaf people.
So we want to set it up with the boy name we've chosen and the girl since we wont know prior to this day and it'll be a surprise for us too. I'm just a little stuck on the girl name. This might also frustrate you as I will not be releasing the first name(a couple real life people followstalk me on the web) yet but if you could still tell me what you think I'd greatly appreciate it! :)
Both names we've had picked out in their exact form since our first year of dating which was about 6 years ago.
BUT how to write it out is tricky. Let me try to explain...
My mother is my whole life, best friend and #1. Husband is well aware. :) So we're going to use her middle name if we have a daughter. However, not a big fan of "Lynn" as a name, just a personal thing! Nothing against it.
And we want to add that to the name we've picked out for her first name that we love!!! BUT I can only think of Ted and the JamieLynn, CarrieLynn, SammieLynn...joke.
I'm also a massive massive MASSIVE Beatle fan and have been since BIRTH and I know it's crazy and you'll all hate it but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to have her middle name be Strawberry since our last name is Fields. Her first name is normal though! Haha. Relatively.
So it would be...
First name is ONE syllable and flows well.
Name-Lynn Strawberry Fields Hard to see with the strike out but this was the hyphen.
NameLynn Strawberry Fields
Namelynn Strawberry Fields
OR
Name Lynn Strawberry Fields
Can't do polls here? :(
Help? TIA
EDIT TO ADD: Since quite a few people like the four name idea...would it sway your vote if you knew that the first name was primarily a boys name but I feel SHOULD be a girls name?
edit to add again: Honorable mention to
r0ck_y0ur_s0ul for guessing the name out of the blue with no hints! LOL. Thank you for deleting your comment too. :)

Date: 2013-08-22 04:33 pm (UTC)Having a one syllable first and last name stinks. My maiden name and first name are one syllable each and I really wish my name sounded more melodic. If you go with Firstname-Lynn she can be called that or use just Firstname. It also gives her the option of not using Strawberry to avoid a lot of teasing.

Date: 2013-08-22 04:33 pm (UTC)So, four names or stick with three?
NameLynn Strawberry Fields
or
Name Lynn Strawberry Fields?

Date: 2013-08-22 04:37 pm (UTC)Yeah, the middle name can be her best kept secret. :) I still don't know my best friends middle name and we've been friends since 3 years old. AND we had tons of classes together over our lifetime. haha

Date: 2013-08-22 04:39 pm (UTC)That said I went to college with a Firstname Lee. They left Lee off her dorm room sign so she decided to go with it, see how she liked it. The next year she was demanding her Lee back.

Date: 2013-08-22 05:00 pm (UTC)Quick question...
Would you change your vote if you knew the first name was primarily a boys name? Just curious...as some people say the prefer the Lynn attached. Though I'm such a huge fan of boy names on girls. BUT it's not like........Duke...it's something that to me has always sounded more feminine.

Quick question...
Would you change your vote if you knew the first name was primarily a boys name? Just curious...as some people say they prefer the Lynn attached for that reason. Though I'm such a huge fan of boy names on girls and personally I like it better alone but I want to know what others think. BUT it's not like........Duke...it's something that to me has always sounded more feminine.

And I totally love the Strawberry Fields thing. I wouldn't be able to pass that up either :)

Date: 2013-08-22 05:12 pm (UTC)Nothing wrong with 2 middles and gives her the option to use or not use Lynn as she sees fit as she gets older.

And thank you kindly!! :) I told him that like our first date and he stuck with me still! hahaha :)

Date: 2013-08-22 05:21 pm (UTC)And he sounds like a good one, my husband is soooo picky about names. He shot down my favorite boy name ever, but he's lucky I love him. :P

Date: 2013-08-22 06:09 pm (UTC)If it were at all a girl-leaning unisex name, like, say, Brett, I would say just go for Brett Lynn. But if it's almost always a boy (check Name Voyager?) like, say, Brock, I would do Brocklynn.
You've piqued my curiosity hugely now!

I promise! On September 1, the world will know! :) Unless it's a boy.

Date: 2013-08-22 06:15 pm (UTC)And I agree! That's kind of why I lean towards the 4 names too because then she will have a choice when she gets older.

Date: 2013-08-22 06:17 pm (UTC)He is a fabulous man! :) We both picked out three girl names and three boys(he picked some first, I did some first and same with middles etc) names in a matter of a few minutes and we've stuck with them every since. :) Thanks !:)

Date: 2013-08-23 01:10 pm (UTC)I'm torn. It would depend on the name. If its over 5 characters like James Lynn or Reese Lynn, I would keep it as two words. If its shorter, like an Evan or Ash, I would go with Evan-Lynn(to avoid Everlyn confusion) and Ashlynn.
I would be hestiant to announce the spelling right away. You have 5 months to change your mind. With my second, we didn't finally decide on his name until I was 37 weeks pregnant. Just don't want you to pressure yourself to decide!

Date: 2013-08-24 02:15 am (UTC)But this way, Jamie Lynn has the option of going by Jamie Lynn, or Jamie, or Lynn, or J.L.
And normally I would totally roll my eyes at the middle name Strawberry, but with the last name it really fits and I would be highly amused. And she never has to use it if she doesn't want to, lol!

Thank you! I just........couldn't avoid that! It was so perfect for us. :) And exactly, it could be her best kept secret! I still don't know my best friends middle name and i've known him since I was 3 :).

Date: 2013-08-24 10:11 pm (UTC)Also, when I read the title of the post, I was so excited to comment and be like "HYPHEN! DO IT!" because I thought you were talking about last names, and I'm a big fan of hyphenated last names! Weirdly, my enthusiasm doesn't extend to hyphenated first names.
